Madeline's understanding earned Thomas's heartfelt thanks.
I watched as Madeline just brushed him off with an impatient wave.
Thomas grabbed my arm and pulled me away from there.
I'd figured Thomas would drag me to some fancy jewelry store to pick out something sparkly. Instead, he steered me straight into an antique shop.
Confusion hit me. "Thomas, what are we doing here? Does your future sister-in-law actually like this old stuff?"
Thomas browsed the displays while giving me a gentle nod. "From what I know, she's crazy about antiques—paintings, ceramics, that whole scene. I'm not exactly an expert, but I remember my grandfather had a collection when I was little, so I thought I'd check it out."
"But I know nothing about this stuff," I said. "If you're the one with experience, why don't you just pick something yourself?"
