Chapter 2 - Chapter:-2 (The Birth Of The Devil)

Year: 1949

A crowded wooden cart moved slowly along the broken road toward Germany.

Men, women, and children sat pressed against one another, their faces empty from exhaustion. Some stared at nothing. Some silently prayed. Others simply waited for the journey to end, wherever it might lead them.

Among them sat Yui, holding her child tightly in her arms.

Only days had passed since the nightmare that shattered her life.

The soldiers had kept their word. After everything, they allowed her and the child to leave — sending them away toward Germany like unwanted remnants of war.

But freedom did not feel like freedom.

Yui sat silently, staring at the moving horizon. Her mind was a storm of emotions — anger, guilt, despair, fear, and something even heavier that she could not name.

She wanted to scream.

She wanted to cry until nothing remained inside her.

She wanted to run away from the memories clawing at her mind.

But she couldn't.

Because in her arms was the only reason she still had to live.

Her child.

So she held him closer, forcing herself to stay strong.

The boy, meanwhile, sat quietly. Too quietly.

His small eyes showed no tears, no panic, no confusion.

Only silence.

Yui assumed he was traumatized by everything he had witnessed. Any child would be.

So she hugged him tighter, gently stroking his head.

But inside the boy's mind, completely different thoughts moved.

Why am I still alive?

Do I even need to live?

What was that feeling I felt back then?

Why does this world… these people… these emotions… feel so foolish?

Thoughts far too heavy for a child his age drifted through his mind, yet his face showed nothing.

Only silence.

A New Beginning

After days of travel, they finally reached a small mountain village in Germany.

The place was quiet, surrounded by hills and fields. Far from cities. Far from war. A place forgotten by the world.

Yui decided this would be their new home.

Life there was not easy.

Every morning she worked in nearby farms, helping with crops and livestock for small wages. Sometimes the payment was food, sometimes coins, sometimes nothing.

Still, she endured.

Everything she did was for her child.

There was not enough money to send him to school, so whenever she found free time, she taught him herself.

Simple words.

Numbers.

How to read.

How to write.

Slowly, patiently.

For a while, life almost felt normal.

The First Signs

In 1950, when the boy was only four years old, something strange began.

He started killing insects.

Ants. Beetles. Small creatures he found around the fields.

Not out of anger.

Not out of fear.

But curiosity.

He wanted to feel something — the same strange sensation he remembered from the past.

Something he believed was pleasure.

Yet each time, he felt nothing.

Only emptiness.

Then, one morning, the village awoke to disturbing news.

A cat had been found dead near the fields. Its body left in an unsettling state, arranged strangely with flowers placed beside it.

Fear spread quickly.

Whispers filled the streets.

Parents kept children indoors.

Yui, already haunted by past horrors, felt dread grip her heart again.

She didn't want danger anywhere near her child.

Meanwhile, the boy quietly stopped harming animals.

Not out of guilt.

But because it felt pointless.

He realized he still felt nothing.

So instead, he began observing people.

Their behavior.

Their emotions.

Their reactions.

He understood one important thing:

If he showed his true nature, trouble would follow.

So he learned to act like a normal child.

To smile.

To play.

To pretend.

A Dangerous Idea

A year passed.

Near their home lived a young woman, friendly and cheerful. She was six months pregnant, often visiting neighbors to chat and pass time.

One afternoon, she came to Yui's home for casual conversation.

The boy, now five, quietly watched her from a corner.

After the woman left, he asked,

"Mom… who was she? Why is her stomach so big?"

Yui laughed softly.

"She's going to have a baby soon. That's why."

The boy blinked.

"A baby? Did you also give birth to me?"

"Of course I did," Yui replied warmly, patting his head before returning to her chores.

But the child remained still.

Inside his mind, a new thought formed.

A baby… a new life.

A new life about to enter this cruel world.

That isn't good.

Someone has to save them.

Only I can do it.

The thought filled him with strange excitement.

A sense of purpose.

The Disappearance

A few days later, the pregnant woman vanished.

Her husband searched desperately.

Villagers joined the search, fear growing with every passing hour.

By evening, they discovered a body outside the village.

The sight left many in shock.

No one needed details to understand something terrible had happened.

Some villagers fainted. Others cried.

The peaceful village atmosphere shattered overnight.

It was blamed on wild animals from the mountains.

But the truth was far more frightening.

The danger was not in the forest.

It lived among them.

And Yui, terrified that violence had found its way back into her life, made a decision.

She and her child would leave again.

Soon after, they moved to another village far away.

The boy quietly understood something.

If incidents continued, suspicion would rise.

And his mother would keep running.

So he decided:

He would stop.

At least for now.

In the new village, the boy's life slowly began to change.

In the previous place, he never had friends. He played alone, wandered alone, and never felt the need for company.

But here, things were different.

There was a girl living nearby.

She was three years older than him, a pure Japanese girl whose family had also settled in the village after the war. Her long, wavy black hair framed a gentle face, and her dark eyes carried a strange warmth and brightness that made people feel comfortable around her.

Whenever she smiled, it felt like sunlight in winter.

Soon, the boy began playing with her.

At first, he only did it to appear normal, just another child among children. But as days turned into months, something unfamiliar grew inside him.

Attachment.

Comfort.

And slowly, without understanding it, affection.

The girl felt the same. They spent afternoons talking, running through fields, or simply sitting under trees watching clouds pass.

For both of them, it was innocent.

Their first love.

A Promise

Time passed.

By 1954, the boy was eight years old, and the girl was eleven.

One evening, she came to him with sad news.

Her family was moving to the United Kingdom for better opportunities and education.

They would leave soon.

The day of departure arrived faster than either of them expected.

Standing near the cart that would take her away, the girl suddenly hugged him tightly. Her voice trembled as tears filled her eyes.

The boy, confused by the heavy feeling in his chest, hugged her back with equal strength.

After a moment, she pulled back slightly.

"Promise me something," she said softly.

He nodded without hesitation.

And so, in childish innocence, they made a promise:

When they met again, they would be adults.

And they would marry each other.

A sweet promise, born from pure hearts.

As a final goodbye, the girl leaned forward and kissed his cheek before leaving.

The boy stood there long after she disappeared from sight.

Something inside him felt torn apart.

The Night Everything Changed.

That night, the house felt unusually silent.

Yui prepared dinner in the kitchen while her son remained alone in his room.

Sitting on the floor, he held his head tightly, staring blankly at nothing.

A strange emotion twisted inside him.

Pain.

Loss.

Confusion.

But he couldn't understand it.
