Chapter 2 - “The Ultimate Insider”

Just when An Lin was drowning in despair, the system interface suddenly appeared in his mind.

Detected: Host has entered the Primordial Continent. Loading language system…

An Lin brightened instantly. Finally, the language problem was about to be solved.

A moment later, another prompt popped up:

Language loading failed…Please bark like a dog twice, at no less than 70 decibels.

An Lin: "…"

Someone explain to him—what the hell was this!?

Why did he have to bark like a dog? What meaning could this possibly have!?

An Lin roared inside, but the system no longer responded.

"…woof woof." he muttered in humiliation.

A moment later, another prompt:

Detected host volume: 20 decibels. Insufficient. Unable to load.

An Lin: "…"

The fairy-like girl looked at him strangely—she had clearly heard some… very questionable sounds.

She continued speaking in words he couldn't understand, and her gaze slowly changed.

Yes—she was now looking at him the way people look at lunatics.

An Lin couldn't take it anymore. He decided to go all out and yelled:

"WOOF! WOOF!"

His voice was so loud several passersby turned to stare, bewildered.

The girl in front of him even jumped in fright.

"Are you insane!?" she shouted.

Well… being mistaken for a maniac was expected. An Lin gave a bitter smile.

"Wait… I can understand you now!"

An Lin suddenly realized he was speaking a strange yet intelligible language.

The girl giggled behind her hand."Ah, so you can speak human. Just now when you suddenly barked, I thought you were a dog demon in disguise."

An Lin's face flushed bright red. He quickly changed the subject."Uh… hello, I'm An Lin. I'm new here—could you tell me where this place is?"

The girl blinked in surprise. "You don't even know where you are? How did you get here?"

"A senior expert… used a special method to send me. I don't understand anything about this place," An Lin explained.

"Oh, I see. This land belongs to the Heavenly Court." She pointed at the sprawling palaces behind the gate. "Inside is the campus of the United Immortal University. I thought you were a new student too."

"Wait—you mean all that land belongs to the university campus!?" An Lin was stunned.

The buildings stretched endlessly—there was no visible end.

"Is that strange? So what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Well, you guessed right. I am a new student."He handed her the golden slip of paper.

"A True God Recommendation Letter!" she gasped.

Her attitude changed instantly.

Smiling sweetly, she said, "Hello, I'm Xu Xiaolan from Shilong Prefecture. I'm a freshman this year too!"

"Since you're unfamiliar with this place, I'll take you to registration."

She didn't even wait for An Lin to respond—just pulled him toward the gate.

He was overwhelmed. Why did this beautiful girl suddenly become so friendly?

As they walked, she explained, "United Immortal University is run by the Heavenly Court. It's the top immortal academy in the Nine Provinces Realm. The campus alone covers forty thousand square kilometers…"

An Lin's eyes widened. A single university larger than an entire province back home!?

Inside the campus, what shocked him most weren't the mystical buildings, but the people.

Clothing from every culture. Skin colors in every imaginable shade. One student even had antennae and a snail shell on his back…

Compared to all that, Xu Xiaolan looked like the most normal human in the world.

Some students walked. Some floated. Some flew on magical treasures. And one guy was… riding a tornado.

Not only that—he spun together with the tornado.

An Lin couldn't help it—he burst out laughing.

The tornado-rider immediately glared at him, rotating in angry circles. An Lin shut up instantly and endured the rotating glare until the man spiraled away…

"There's the registration area," Xu Xiaolan pointed ahead.

A small plaza. Thousands gathered around a massive black stone tablet that glowed white from time to time.

"Dao Body—Seventh Rank!"

"Wow, amazing!"

The crowd roared in excitement.

An Lin had déjà vu.Why did this feel like a leveling test from those cultivation novels?

Xu Xiaolan explained, "This is the pre-admission cultivation test. Though we already have offer letters, our cultivation rank determines which class we join."

"There are ten thousand freshmen this year. They'll be divided into one hundred classes—from Class One for the top, to Class One Hundred for the lowest."

"So… extremely straightforward placement," An Lin muttered.

Xu Xiaolan giggled. "It's for better tailored teaching. And you look like a genius—Class One for sure."

An Lin had no idea how to respond. He didn't even know what "Dao Body" meant.

Xu Xiaolan stepped forward first.

She placed her hand on the stone tablet.

A brilliant white light burst out.

"Dao Body—Ninth Rank!"

The crowd erupted.

"The girl in the simple Taoist robe? She's a prodigy!"

The swordsman-like middle-aged examiner announced loudly:"Xu Xiaolan, Class One!"

She returned to An Lin, smiling."Your turn, An Lin. Good luck!"

Nervous, he approached the examiner and handed over the golden slip.

The examiner's calm face changed—surprised. He activated the golden paper with immortal power; it gleamed faintly.

He looked at An Lin with a rare gentle expression."Go ahead. Test your cultivation."

"True God Recommendation Letter!" someone shouted.

The crowd exploded.

"Which clan's peerless genius is he!?""This is the third recommendation letter this year!""No previous batch ever had even one!"

Everyone stared at An Lin—some girls even blushed at his handsome face.

Why are you all staring at me…!?

Feeling the pressure, An Lin inhaled deeply.

Maybe I'm secretly a monster-level talent… maybe I'm Dao Body Rank Ten…Who knows?

He placed his hand on the stone.

White light flashed.

"Dao Body—Rank Zero."

The world fell silent.

Utter silence.

People rubbed their eyes, doubting reality.

Even though An Lin expected it, disappointment hit him hard.

Then—

"An Lin, Class One," the examiner announced calmly.

An Lin stumbled. He turned around, stunned.

He hadn't misheard—the students' expressions confirmed it.

Silence again.

Then someone whispered:

"The strongest connections student… has appeared."

No one refuted it.Many even nodded.

Because everyone understood—

An Lin had just broken a historic record:the first student ever to enter Class One with the worst rank possible.

An Lin joined Xu Xiaolan with his head lowered.

She looked at him with sympathy, wanting to comfort him but not knowing how.

An Lin gazed up at the sky at a dramatic forty-five-degree angle, devastated.

He just wanted to peacefully cultivate immortality.

Yet on day one, he had already become a campus legend…

And the least flattering kind.
