Chapter Sixty One – polite men are to be feared.
Morning came quickly in the mansion, but it did not come gently.
Zahid had been awake long before the sun rose. He sat in his study, already dressed, already alert. The events of the previous day still sat heavy in his chest. Raul's visit. The way his eyes had moved. The way his questions had been carefully hidden behind respect.
Zahid did not trust men that appeared too polite, for those are the ones that truly needs to be feared grately.
A soft knock sounded on the study door.
"Enter," Zahid said.
A guard stepped in and bowed. "My lord. A message from the guest lodge."
Zahid's eyes lifted slightly. "Speak."
"The Chief Raul sends his greetings," the guard said carefully. "He wishes to have breakfast with you this morning."
Zahid's jaw tightened just a bit.
The guard continued, repeating Raul's exact words as instructed.
