Chapter 16 - chapter 16

Screen 1 – Cutting Enmu's True Neck (Darker Version)

The insides of Enmu's demon-fused train are no longer just grotesque.

They are alive.

Flesh pulses.

Eyes blink inside the walls.

The floor quivers like something trying to breathe.

Every heartbeat of the monster shakes the metal skeleton of the engine.

Tanjiro wipes blood from his face—his own and Enmu's.

"His core is close. I can smell its fear."

Inosuke snarls, animalistic.

"THEN LET ME RIP IT OUT!"

He slashes ahead, carving through a cluster of fleshy tendrils. They bleed black ichor that splatters across the chamber.

That smell—

That sound—

It's the kind demons make when they're dying.

Sans floats behind them, his eye burning with cold blue fire.

"Let's hurry. This whole place feels like a lung about to collapse."

They drop into the central chamber.

The spine of the train pulses like a heartbeat.

Bone fused with metal.

Veins wrapped around pistons.

The engine acts like a ribcage, rising and falling.

Enmu's voice shakes the air, distorted and cracked:

"DON'T COME ANY CLOSER.

THIS BODY…

THIS FORM…

I CREATED IT.

YOU WILL NOT CARVE ME APART!"

Tanjiro tightens his grip.

His feet stabilize.

Resolve sharpens.

"You forced innocent people into dreams just to devour them…

You deserve worse than death."

Inosuke leaps.

"BEAST BREATHING—FANGS!"

His blades sink deep—

but the flesh regenerates instantly.

Faster.

Hungrier.

Inosuke's eyes widen in shock.

"WHAT KIND OF MONSTER REGENERATES THIS FAST!?"

Enmu laughs, voice echoing from all directions.

"I AM THE TRAIN.

I AM THE FLOOR.

THE AIR.

THE BLOOD SOAKING YOUR FEET.

YOU CANNOT KILL WHAT EXISTS EVERYWHERE!"

Tendrils erupt—hundreds—wrapping around Tanjiro and Inosuke.

Tanjiro grits his teeth as a tendril crushes his ribs.

Inosuke roars as one squeezes his arm like a serpent.

Enmu hisses:

"Sleep…

Sleep forever…

Let me eat your souls while you dream."

Pink mist begins to swirl.

The air turns heavy.

Tanjiro's eyelids droop.

Inosuke stumbles.

The world blurs—

Then the blurring shatters.

Sans cracks his neck.

"Nah. Not today."

A shockwave of pure blue force bursts from him.

The tendrils snap, exploding into chunks of gore.

Dream-mist evaporates instantly.

Enmu screams—

a high, broken, desperate sound.

"STOP BREAKING MY BODY!

STOP BREAKING MY ART!"

Sans points lazily toward the neck.

"Kid. Finish him. I've got anchor duty."

Tanjiro breathes once.

The world narrows.

"Thank you, Sans."

Water twirls around him like a storm.

"Water Breathing… Eighth Form…"

He cuts through the bone.

The bone cracks.

Blood sprays.

Enmu screeches.

"I'LL REGENERATE—"

Sans crushes the air around the neck with gravity.

"Not anymore."

Inosuke bursts free, snarling.

"MOVE, TANJIRO! I'M TAKING THE FINAL CUT!"

Tanjiro nods.

Together—

Two blades rise.

Two breaths align.

"TENTH FORM!"

"FANGS!"

Their blades slice the true neck.

The spine splits.

A deafening scream tears through the engine.

Enmu's body collapses like a massive organ melting into itself.

The entire train howls as it begins to die.

Sans teleports them upward as the monster-train thrashes in its death throes.

They land atop the wreckage.

The wind carries the last echo of Enmu's voice:

"I… I didn't want to be alone… in the dark again…"

Then silence.

Tanjiro exhales.

"We won."

Inosuke beats his chest.

"OBVIOUSLY WE WON!"

Sans leans on a broken rail.

"Yeah. But something ugly is coming."

Tanjiro's expression darkens.

"You sense it too…?"

The fog parts.

Footsteps echo on crushed metal.

Someone approaches with the calm confidence of a predator.

Muscles wrapped in pink patterns.

Eyes like a smiling corpse.

A presence that screams: Upper Rank.

Akaza emerges.

Screen 2 – Akaza vs Rengoku (Darker Version)

Where the train once stood, only wreckage remains.

Smoke. Blood.

The metallic smell of death lingers.

Akaza steps onto the battlefield.

The ground cracks under each step from sheer power.

Rengoku stands before him, unwavering.

Flames coil around his blade like a dragon waking.

"Upper Rank… I accept your challenge."

Papyrus runs beside him.

"I SHALL FIGHT BY YOUR SIDE, FLAME KNIGHT!"

Akaza smiles with casual malice.

"A talkative skeleton.

Cute.

Useless."

Papyrus gasps, offended.

"WH-WHAT— HOW DARE YOU—"

Sans grabs his scarf and yanks him back.

"Bro. If you go near him, you're dead before you blink."

Papyrus freezes.

Fear mixes with frustration.

Rengoku nods once.

"You two have done enough tonight.

Please… allow me this battle."

Akaza relaxes into a stance.

"Let us begin, Flame Hashira."

Then—

The world erupts.

Rengoku's flame clashes with Akaza's bare fists.

Every strike sends shockwaves ripping through trees.

The ground tears apart from pressure alone.

Papyrus shields his skull.

"I-I CAN'T EVEN SEE THEM!"

Sans narrows his eye.

"You're not supposed to.

This fight's on a level where one mistake means you lose your head."

Blood splashes across the forest floor.

Akaza's.

Rengoku's.

Neither slows down.

Akaza grins wildly.

"THIS IS WONDERFUL!

YOU ARE STRONG, RENGOKU!"

He punches again—

Rengoku blocks, but bone cracks.

Blood drips down his arm.

Papyrus clenches his fists.

"SANS… LET ME HELP… HE'S OUR FRIEND!"

Sans shakes his head slowly.

"If we interfere, we distract him.

And distraction means death."

His voice is low, heavy with dread.

"Let him fight his way."

Papyrus trembles.

"…I hate this…"

Rengoku unleashes flame after flame.

Akaza answers with destructive shockwaves that leave craters.

Finally—

Rengoku prepares his strongest technique.

"NINTH FORM…

RENGOKU!!!"

He charges with everything he has.

Akaza's eyes light up with pure savage joy.

"YES! SHOW ME MORE!"

Their final clash explodes in a pillar of flame and blood.

Papyrus grips Sans' sleeve, voice breaking.

"Sans… c-can he win?"

Sans watches Rengoku's burning silhouette.

"…No."

His voice is flat.

Pained.

Honest.

"But he's not fighting to win."

Papyrus looks confused, horrified.

"Then… then why…?"

Sans closes his glowing eye.

"He's fighting to protect everyone behind him.

Even if it kills him."

Akaza rips free of Rengoku's grasp.

The moon glints off his killing blow.

Rengoku stands his ground, unbroken, even as blood pours down his face.

Papyrus whispers:

"…Rengoku…"

Sans squeezes Papyrus' shoulder.

"Remember this.

This is what real courage looks like."

Flames roar one last time—

Rengoku and Akaza collide under the rising sun.

To be continued…
