Chapter 60 - cruel mercy

(* Master's Command * )

A streak of blue mist drifted through the air, heading toward a specific destination. It arrived before the mouth of a massive cave, leading down into a vast, subterranean chamber where the darkness lay thick and heavy.

The blue mist flowed down into that abyss, and suddenly, it coalesced into a human form.

Rey.

Yes... it was Rey. He walked slowly into the depths of that underground chamber. Inside, there was hardly any light, only a cold, suffocating silence.

He stood there, facing a vast, looming darkness.

"You seemed to be enjoying yourself quite a bit out there..."

A disembodied voice struck his ears. Rey started, glancing back quickly, but there was no one there. He turned his gaze back toward the darkness ahead, sensing the presence of someone taking a deep, slow breath.

"I could smell the scent of your cruelty, Rey..."

"Master!!"

Rey bowed his head toward the darkness.

"They... they are arrogant, Master. Mere puppets wasting time talking about fate and justice. I simply showed them their own insignificance."

He looked steadily into the void.

"It was only because you summoned me otherwise, they wouldn't be walking this earth today, Master."

The voice from within let out a low chuckle.

"Your duty is not to kill them, Rey. Until I say so, you do not have that permission."

Rey remained silent, staring into the dark.

"They must not die. I have a use for them. Control your impulsiveness; it is not needed. Besides, that is not your mission right now."

A dark mist surged out from the depths toward Rey. Within the swirling smoke, a unique, strange stone appeared. He took it in his hand and examined it.

"This... what is this, Master?" Rey asked curiously.

"You must find the owner of this stone. For me," the voice commanded with heavy gravity.

Rey was not permitted to argue or speak further. He turned to walk away.

Suddenly!!!!

"Did you really show them their insignificance? Or did you just leave them with enough breath to keep dreaming??"

A cold smile crept onto Rey's lips at the question.

"Fear is a slow-spreading poison, Master. Had I killed them, their pain would have ended there. By leaving them with shattered swords, I have ensured they will never know peace again. Their fear will be far more beneficial to our cause than their corpses ever could be, Master."

A laugh resonated from within the chamber.

"A clever move. But do not let this interfere with my commands."

Rey walked out of the chamber, a hint of suppressed anger in his stride.

Inside, his Master slowly stepped toward the faint light filtering into the room. He stood before a mysterious, hidden vault. His form remained obscured, but in the dim light, only his eyes shone with terrifying clarity.

Eyes like stagnant pools of blood.
