Chapter 7 - Family and kingdom (part -1)

"Let me go and grab some books from the library about the duchy and kingdom, and also return the dishes." Weilhem stated as he picked up the plates.

"Sure." Syaoran replied.

_________

Thud

"Let's start," Weilhem said, placing at least ten books onto the table, massaging his shoulder afterwards.

"You've got quite the collection there." Syaoran remarked, eyeing the thickness of the stack. Each volume rivaled the size of the Master of Rings books.

"Don't feel down just seeing the books, there are more in the library. These are not even half of the books present in there about the duchy and kingdom." Weilhem stated as he sat on the sofa opposite to Syaoran.

Syaoran's face dropped hearing that. History was one of the subjects he enjoyed, but only when he was narrated by someone. Reading was also something he enjoyed but not history and politics. But wait, did he say library?

"There is a library?" He asked the butler.

"Yup, quite a big one. You will only find a library bigger than the one in this kingdom in the imperial palace or the kingdom's library." Weilhem replied.

Now, he won't be as bored as he thought he would be.

"So you know the name of the duchy?" The butler asked.

"Yvaine"

"Correct, Yvaine is the name of both the family and the duchy. The kingdom we are in is known as the kingdom of Orpalsera. The duchy has been part of this kingdom from the start and carries the hero's bloodline. Yvaine is also known as the kingdom's 'Night Guards' since the knights are usually active after dark. The Duke-your father- is himself known as the Night Guardian of Orpalsera. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the lunar knights. They are an order from the Yvaine duchy, named 'Lunar' because they work under the moon's light. So...moon, lunar.. you get it?" Weilhem tried to explain.

"Yes, continue," Syaoran replied possessing the information that was being passed down to him. Some of this was already familiar thanks to the memories of the pervious Syaobut gaps remained. It was better to start from the beginning than to stand like a fool when questioned.

"And I just realised that we have something more important to discuss before we get to the family and kingdom." Weilhem said as he stood up and walked towards one of the bedside table and grabbed something from inside.

A pair of more gloves.

" I am already wearing gloves so no need for them." Syaoran raised his hands to show the black gloves on his hands.

"I know, I know. I just pulled these out so you can keep a spare pair to wear if you can't find one." Weilhem said as he placed the gloves before the boy.

"Why is it so important for me to wear gloves I know it is cold but not that cold and I don't think I will fall ill just because I am not wearing gloves." Syaoran remarked.

"That's what I am going to explain to you but...let me get the book first." Weilhem said as he again disappeared to get the book.

Syaoran facepalmed.

________

"Ahem, let's start again." Weilhem said as he lightly coughed.

Syaoran again expected to see a stack of books like before, but this time Weilhem only carried two books although thick but not as much as the ones already placed on the table.

"You mentioned you wouldn't fall ill from the cold, Syaoran," Weilhem said, his voice dropping an octave as he flipped through the yellowed, brittle pages. " You are right. You won't. But the world around you will."

He stopped at a page depicting a hand surrounded by jagged, crystalline patterns.

"These gloves aren't for your health," Weilhem admitted, refusing to meet Syaoran's eyes. "They are a barrier. A seal. You carry the Glacial Curse, a mark of the hero's bloodline that hasn't been seen in two centuries."

Syaoran looked down at his black-gloved hands. He had joked about the cold earlier, but the way Weilhem handled the book made his stomach drop.

"Without then," Weilhem whispered, pointing to an illustration of a withered flower and a bird frozen solid. "anything living you touch- be it a flower, a hound, or a human- will be paralysised. Their blood will turn to ice in an instant. You wouldn't just make them sick; you would turn them into a 'dead body' of frozen glass.

Syaoran felt a sudden, sharp spoke of cold in his fingertips. The " previous" Syaoran's memories flickered and he blacked out. Opening his eyes he watched a small chubby hand reaching out to help someone only for them to flinch away and say, " stay away you monster ".

'Syaoran'

"You freak! Don't stand in my way."

'Young master, hey'

"SNAP OUT OF IT"

Weilhem was holding Syaoron by the shoulders and seemed to be quite worried.

"You okay? Well, obviously you are not. Let's stop for today okay we can continue later on." Weilhem said closing the book.

"Have I ever killed anyone?" Syaoran asked.

"No, would you like to take a stroll outside?" Weilhem asked as he quietly placed the second pair of gloves towards him.

"Sure" Syaoran replied taking the pair.
