After Zarek had laid Tanith in her room, he came back to attend to Roxy.
Instead of the main door, he used the other door that led directly into the nursery.
Roxy was drowsy, her eyelids fluttering shut as Zarek laid her gently onto the center of the massive bed. The mattress dipped under his weight as he knelt at the edge.
His large, rough hands wrapped around her ankles. With surprising gentleness, he slid her boots off, tossing them carelessly to the floor. His calloused fingers trailed up her calves, sending a shiver of awareness through her exhausted muscles.
He moved up, his hands finding the hidden clasp of the Imperial Silk dress. The zipper parted with a soft hiss, and Zarek peeled the deep indigo fabric down to her waist, exposing her heated skin to the cool night air of the bedroom.
The door handle turned again.
Roxy forced her heavy eyes open. Kaelen stepped into the room, turning the lock with a definitive snick.
