A Few Hours Ago...
Riley's jaw dropped the moment she saw him. Words failed her and all she could do was stare. Just a few hours ago, Mr Blackwood had been in a terrible state, barely holding on. It was not that she wished for his quick recovery, but seeing him this strong so soon left her shaken and confused.
The men in the room stopped talking when they noticed her. Silence fell at once. Alistair's eyes widened in shock and he froze where he stood. For a few seconds, he neither moved nor spoke. His gaze met hers briefly and Riley caught the look on his face. He clearly had not expected her to appear like this. Had Mr Titus not told him that she was coming back?
Riley could not help but wonder what had happened so quickly during her absence to make him recover this fast. If such healing was possible, then Mr Blackwood would not have needed her services at all. It felt like her time and effort had been wasted.
