It felt like a dream when her eyes opened. Mr. Kol was gone, just like that, leaving her standing there confused and unable to speak. Mr. James stood by the car a few steps away, waiting for her.
Riley knew the car had not been there a minute ago. She was sure of it. So how did it appear so fast? How did he arrive without her noticing? Her heart tightened as the questions piled up in her head.
Or had the car been there the whole time and she somehow missed it?
She shook her head slowly. She remembered everything too clearly, every second of what had just happened. So why did her thoughts feel twisted now? Why did everything feel mixed up in her mind?
Just a moment ago, Mr. Kol had been standing right there. The space between them had felt heavy and awkward, made worse by the fact that he was her patient and none of that should have happened.
"Are you ready to leave ma?" Mr. James asked with a warm smile, pulling her out of her thoughts.
