Golden ki surged around Gohan.
Although he had already gone all out, he did not attack immediately. His sharp eyes carefully observed Vegeta, searching for even the slightest weakness.
The difference in raw power was obvious.
Yet Vegeta stood there calmly, untransformed, wrapped in a mysterious and steady aura that made Gohan hesitate.
"Even as a Super Saiyan, I can't see any openings," Gohan thought. "If this continues, I'll lose momentum."
He had to take the initiative.
Vegeta remained silent, watching him.
"If he had rushed in recklessly, he'd truly be foolish," Vegeta thought. "He has some brains. Unfortunately, he's still too weak. If only his power were twice as high."
Finally, Gohan made his move.
He leaped into the sky and rapidly condensed ki in his palms, unleashing a relentless barrage of energy blasts.
Hundreds of golden shots rained down like a storm, sealing off every escape route.
For most opponents, this would be overwhelming.
Vegeta did not even step aside.
"Wasting energy," he said calmly.
He raised one hand.
A powerful wave of ki burst outward, forming an invisible storm that altered the trajectories of every incoming blast. The attacks collided with each other midair.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A chain reaction erupted, explosions swallowing half the sky in a sea of fire. The shockwaves rolled outward for hundreds of miles.
From below, Trunks stared in awe.
His father had neutralized a Super Saiyan's full assault without transforming.
In the sky, using the explosion as cover, Gohan moved at high speed and appeared behind Vegeta.
"It wasn't useless!" Gohan shouted as he unleashed a full-power spinning kick.
His leg passed straight through.
No impact.
"An afterimage?!" Gohan's eyes widened.
"You thought that would fool me?" Vegeta's voice came from behind him. "You've fought many battles, but your opponents have been limited. Your experience is still lacking."
Before Gohan could turn, Vegeta's fist struck him squarely in the back.
Boom!
Gohan shot upward like a missile, piercing through the burning sky and soaring tens of thousands of meters high.
He gasped in pain before regaining control midair.
"Uncle Vegeta hasn't changed at all," he muttered.
Suddenly, countless energy blasts pierced through the flames below and rushed toward him.
Vegeta had launched hundreds more.
Gohan flared his ki and began dodging frantically.
"What's wrong?" Vegeta called out. "Just running? After recovering, your power should've risen dramatically."
Gohan's eyes sharpened.
He stopped retreating.
Instead of dodging, he began smashing the incoming blasts head-on, shattering them with punches and kicks.
"That's better!" Vegeta said. "Being suppressed by the Androids made you forget how Saiyans fight!"
Gohan adapted quickly.
His movements became smoother. His strikes more decisive.
His battle power continued climbing during the exchange, subtly pushing toward the billion mark.
But Vegeta wanted more.
Golden light flickered around him as he condensed a massive energy sphere in his palm.
Without warning, he fired it.
The enormous blast roared toward Gohan.
Gohan braced himself and caught it with both hands.
The pressure was overwhelming.
"So heavy… and this is just his base form?!" Gohan gritted his teeth as he was forced backward through the air.
The crushing force reminded him of fighting Android 17 and Android 18.
"If I can't overcome this, how can I save the future?!"
With a roar, he released all his power.
"Aaaah!"
His aura flared violently as he compressed the energy sphere between his palms.
Boom!
The blast detonated, engulfing him in flames that covered half the sky. Even the Earth trembled slightly.
The Reaction
In the ruins of an eastern city, Android 17 paused.
"In that direction, two powerful energies are colliding," he said coldly. "One belongs to Gohan. The other… is unknown."
"Gohan isn't dead?" Android 18 smirked. "Interesting. Let's go see."
The two shot into the sky.
Elsewhere, hidden in a remote mountain region, Cell froze mid-motion.
He had been absorbing what little life remained on Earth.
"Those energies…" His eyes narrowed. "Gohan… and that other one… Vegeta?"
Impossible.
Vegeta had died long ago.
Yet greed flickered in Cell's eyes.
"If 17 and 18 investigate, a battle is inevitable. Perhaps I can reap the rewards."
Back on the Plains
After the explosion cleared, Gohan's fighting spirit surged.
He attacked boldly now, no hesitation remaining.
The battle intensified.
They moved at blinding speed, colliding midair.
Bang! Boom! Crack!
To Trunks, the sky looked like countless golden threads weaving together.
"I can't even see them…" he muttered, drenched in sweat.
The gap was enormous.
"You've adapted quickly," Vegeta said during a clash. "Your techniques are improving. Not bad."
Gohan's growth was obvious. Each exchange made him stronger.
"You're too kind, Uncle Vegeta," Gohan replied between strikes. "If my father were alive and saw your power, he'd definitely want to fight you."
"Kakarot of this world…" Vegeta murmured.
Goku had died long ago in this timeline.
But death did not mean weakness.
As King Kai's disciple, Kakarot would never stop training, even in Other World.
"How strong is this era's Kakarot now?" Vegeta wondered.
Perhaps a visit to Other World was in order.
Suddenly, Gohan's instincts flared.
"Now!"
He struck.
But Vegeta caught both fists effortlessly.
"I don't make such basic mistakes," Vegeta said with a teasing grin. "You still underestimate me."
Gohan forced a bitter smile.
"Still, you've satisfied me somewhat," Vegeta continued as he pushed Gohan back. "So I'll show you something."
Gohan retreated, eyes wide and alert.
Vegeta's voice rang out clearly across the plains.
"Watch carefully. This is the true power of Super Saiyan First Grade."
Golden light began to rise around him.
