It took them about a half day of just traveling to finally get to the outskirts of the city. By then. Freya was hungry, exhausted and in serious need of a bath. She didn't even want to think about what was caked on her.
She glanced at the massive blue dome sphere overtowering the forest and guessed that was the city. Which also had her questioning what was powering that thing? Was it an ability like Xavier's?
Before she could ask, Xavier came to a sudden stop and set her down. He then said, removing his coat, "Cover yourself with this and let me do all the talking. Don't ask questions, I'll explain everything when we're at my house."
Freya took his coat and put it on herself, the thing surprisingly quite big for her. Normally, men's clothing was just a bit baggy, not something she was swimming in. Guess men here were just built differently.
"Can I ask why all the strange rules?" Freya asked. "You know before we go into the city."
"Because it's rare for a female to enter a city." Xavier sighed. "The guards are going to ask a lot of questions for safety… Not to mention they'll want to attract your attention. It'll save you a lot of trouble if you ignore them."
Freya raised an eyebrow. She could understand them asking questions if it was rare for a woman to enter the city, but to attract her attention.
"Seriously… I look like I crawled out of a dumpster. This is not exactly what one would call attractive." Freya couldn't help but mutter aloud. She then sighed, "But fine, let's just get moving then."
Because the quicker she was inside the city, the quicker she could take a nice, long bath and get some food in her stomach. Then she'd work things from there.
Her life was a mess right now, but Freya knew her only way through this all was to just adapt. It was her best way of surviving and surprisingly something she was good at.
Even if it meant pushing down all her anger over what happened. Right now, wasn't the time for that.
"Alright." Xavier murmured, picking her up once more.
This time, however, he didn't handle her like a sack of potatoes, but carried her up in one arm. Freya swung an arm around his neck and the two were off again.
Freya closed her eyes as they moved to reduce her motion sickness from this bumpy ride. After a few minutes, Xavier came to another stop and Freya carefully opened her eyes again.
The dome in front of her was pulsing with some kind of energy and she noticed it had hexagon styled shapes linked together to form the dome. Almost reminding her of a honey comb.
Two men with some kind of white and blue armoured bodysuit stood in front of the massive dome holding large guns. It felt like she was staring at some kind of futuristic sci-fi scene.
Guess that means I shouldn't have to suffer too much in this world… Freya mused to herself as one of the men walked over to them. Probably will just need to get used to the technology.
"General Xavier…" The guardsman approaching them murmured in surprise as he came to a stop in front of them. "This is…"
"My wife-to-be, Freya. I found her in the forest while on a mission." Xavier stated coldly. "It's been a hard time for her, so I ask that you let us through immediately. I'll deal with the trouble myself."
"But…" The guardsman paused, glancing at Freya and then Xavier again. "This… I… "
Xavier narrowed his eyes and muttered, "I suggest you just follow orders."
The guardsman gulped and numbly nodded his head, making Freya feel a little sorry for him. However, it got the job done and the other guardsman was pressing his hand on the dome.
Several hexagons split open with a hiss revealing a doorway. Xavier walked over to it, heading inside the dimly litted passageway without another word.
It looked to be made of concrete and was awfully quiet save for Xavier's footsteps echoing through it. They walked for what seemed like an eternity, going through several different paths.
After several minutes of walking around this labyrinth, Xavier finally entered a room and came to a stop. The room was empty and had one other door on the other side of the room which soon opened.
A lanky man wearing a well-tailored suit and the biggest smirk on his face appeared from the door. Atop his fiery red hair were a pair of fox ears and he had a bushy fox tail.
"Well hasn't the world finally gone crazy…" The man muttered, glancing over at Freya with golden, brown eyes. "I thought the guards were messing with me when they said you brought in a female… Wife-to-be, did you say?"
"That's correct." Xavier said. "Now how about you be nice and let us through. We're both tired and would like to rest. We can come by tomorrow to deal with the paperwork."
The man shook his head. "I think not. You know the rules…"
"I believe there was a report that went-" Xavier started, making the man's smirk fall immediately.
He narrowed his eyes and then growled, "Watch it General. You have enough enemies."
"And you don't want any problems." Xavier murmured, walking over to the fox beastman. He then passed him, heading to the other door. "Thanks for today. I'll come by and report tomorrow."
With that they left the room with Freya wondering what exactly had just happened. They walked though several more passageways, this time with there being a few guardsmen around.
A few glanced their way, clearly shocked by the sight, but they kept it to themselves. Eventually though, they made it to some kind of underground parking with strange vehicles parked everywhere.
Xavier walked over to one of the many black vehicles and set her down. He then opened the door and said, "Get in."
