Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Seeing Han Fei practice so diligently, Bo Xi nodded.

Thinking it was time to eat, she stood up and walked toward him.

"Fei, it's time to eat. Let's make some food," Bo Xi said.

Han Fei looked at her in confusion."But didn't we already eat? Are you hungry? I'll make something for you," he said, standing up.

Usually, villagers ate only twice a day, and those who were slightly better off ate three times during harvest season.

"No, I usually eat three or four times a day," Bo Xi said.

Hearing this, Han Fei was shocked. Back in his home, he often only had watery porridge once a day.

Han Fei didn't say anything more and simply followed her.

"Sit down, I'll make some noodles," Han Fei said as he entered the kitchen.

"Let me help. I don't know how to make noodles, but I can wash and cut the vegetables and meat," Bo Xi said, tying up her sleeves and walking in.

"No need! I'll do it myself. And you're a scholar and a woman—how can you enter the kitchen?" Han Fei said in panic.

"I want to help you. And I've been cooking for myself for a long time," Bo Xi said, already grabbing a cabbage.

Han Fei looked at her like he didn't understand something at all.

In the end, he gave up.

Bo Xi washed and cut the vegetables."Maybe it'll taste better if we fry the meat first and then put it in the noodles," she said, holding two chicken legs.

"Isn't that too much?" Han Fei said, staring at the meat.

"I think it's just enough for the two of us," Bo Xi replied, already slicing them.

Han Fei looked like he wanted to say something, but stopped, his expression complicated.

"What's wrong?" Bo Xi asked, pouring a generous amount of oil into the pan.

"Nothing… it's just too much oil," Han Fei said, looking at her as if she had committed a crime.

"No, only this much oil will make it fry properly," Bo Xi said seriously.

"No, go out! I'll do it myself!" Han Fei suddenly said, pushing her out of the kitchen.

Seeing how serious he was, Bo Xi obediently sat on a chair and watched his busy figure.

Han Fei quickly prepared the soup base and expertly hand-pulled the noodles.

Soon, a delicious bowl of noodles was ready.

Bo Xi's stomach growled.

"I'll carry the pot out. You bring the bowls," Bo Xi said, using thick cloth to lift the heavy pot.

Han Fei followed her with the bowls and chopsticks.

When everything was set, Bo Xi generously put most of the meat into Han Fei's bowl.

"What are you doing? I can't eat that much," Han Fei said.

"Eat it. Look how thin you are," Bo Xi replied.

Han Fei looked at her sweetly and started eating.

His eyes stung, so he quickly lowered his head, feeling warmth spread through his chest.

Soon, the pot was empty.

Han Fei glanced at Bo Xi's stomach, making her feel shy.

"I just eat a lot… and it was delicious," Bo Xi said, lightly patting her stomach.

Han Fei silently made a note to cook more food for her in the future.

"Well, practicing martial arts really does make you hungry," Han Fei said, nodding."But… I didn't see any chickens. Haven't you raised them?"

"I was busy, so I forgot," Bo Xi said.

"Then the chicken we ate… you bought it?" Han Fei asked.

"Yes. It was cheap, just twenty copper coins."

"What? That's expensive. Normally ten is already high. It's usually eight," Han Fei said.

Bo Xi sat awkwardly, then smiled."Looks like I was tricked. Then from now on, you handle the buying. I'll consult you before I purchase anything."

Han Fei suddenly felt that Bo Xi was far too naive.

If someone tricked her out of all her money, she probably wouldn't even notice.

"I'll wash the dishes," Bo Xi said, grabbing the bowls before Han Fei could react.

"Let me do it!" Han Fei hurried after her.

"No need," Bo Xi said, already at the well.

She washed everything under Han Fei's disapproving gaze.

Afterward, she stretched lazily.

"I'll practice some martial arts," Bo Xi said.

"Can I watch?" Han Fei asked. "I have nothing to do."

"Of course," Bo Xi said, not realizing his hidden meaning.

Han Fei watched her train.

At first Bo Xi felt nervous, but soon she focused completely.

She guided Qi from her space while moving. Since Qi was invisible to ordinary people, she wasn't worried about Han Fei noticing anything strange.

After a while, she stopped, sweat dripping down her face.

Han Fei stepped closer and wiped her sweat with his sleeve.

Bo Xi's face turned slightly red.

"I'll go wash up," she said hurriedly.

She quickly rinsed herself and changed into a loose robe.

When she returned, Han Fei was sitting on the bed.

"Dress properly…" Han Fei said, blushing and turning his head away.

Bo Xi obediently adjusted her clothes.

"Why don't we make a list for tomorrow?" she said, sitting beside him.

She took out paper and brush."First, what should we bring when we visit your parents?"

She wrote: chicken, fabric, sweets.

"No need for sweets. And chicken is expensive. We can just take some grain and cloth," Han Fei said.

"But that would look shabby. I don't want people to talk badly about you," Bo Xi said gently.

In the village, what the man bring when returning to his house is important. It shows how much the bride cares about him.

After hesitating, Han Fei nodded.

They continued writing together as the sun slowly set.

That evening, Bo Xi helped cook again. This time, Han Fei let her help, only with washing and cutting vegetables.

After dinner, they talked for a while before returning to the bedroom.

Soon, Han Fei's weak protest could be heard.

"Don't worry, my dear. It won't take long… we still have to go to the city tomorrow," Bo Xi's teasing voice followed.
