By Monday morning, the entire street apparently believed they were dating.
Emma nearly choked on her tea when Mrs. Hernandez asked, "So how long have you and the new boy been a thing?"
"We're not — he's not — Emma stammered.
Across the lawn, Lucas waved, clueless.
When she confronted him about it, he smirked. "Well, we did share midnight tea. Scandalous."
""Lucas!"
He laughed. "Relax. I'll clear it up."
But when Mrs. Hernandez asked him, Lucas simply smiled and said, "we're just neighbors. For now"
Emma spent the rest of the day blushing and not knowing why.
