'Damn… A system?'

Alexander froze a bit as he stared at the translucent screen that unfolded in front of his eyes.

[Welcome Ruler Candidate]

Alexander stared at the new screen for barely a second before a cold, unfamiliar clarity settled into his mind.

Information unfolded on its own as if the knowledge had always been there, waiting to be noticed.

It explained the various function of the system.

First, the system was divided into two, his Personal Tab and the Kingdom tab.

For his Personal tab.

Name was obvious enough and his Martial rank was his physical combat strength and how far he had come through the martial ranks.

Then there was his mana rank which was basically non-existent… This measured how far he had climbed on the mana ranks, which included his mana capacity and spell usage.

His Race and Attributed followed. The system seamed to treat them more like foundation than choices.

Techniques were next. These were the methods by which he improved his Martial / Mana rank. His current Martial technique was that of the imperial family that focuses on brutal strength and adding passive fire element into their physical attack.

Lastly came Abilities. These were mostly passive or Unique qualities that influenced everything he did.

Then the Kingdom Tab which focused entirely on the empire itself.

The Kingdom name was… well the name of the state… while it could be changed, doing so without good reason especially in the current state of the empire would most likely cause the empire to collapse.

Stability measured how close the empire was to order or collapse. High stability meant obedience and order while low stability meant rebellion.

As far as he could tell… One of the reasons the empire hadn't collapsed yet was partly because of such action would invite outer power to take their share and the Dukes were smart enough to understand that was detrimental to them.

So, they all pretended to be one while refusing orders from the Imperial capital.

The other reason was simple… The Sun God Theocracy.

They were doing everything to stop that since the empire would be devoured by other powers and their precious goose that laid golden eggs would be killed and the meat shared.

Then came Kingdom Points.

This was basically the system currency. Which can be used for a lot of things including increasing his personal strength. The system made it clear where it came from.

From enemies killed, scaled by their ranks.

From fulfilling the responsibility of ruling.

From conquering and securing territory.

And monthly passive income from territory already under his rule.

That naturally led to territory.

The system divided territory into three types.

Fully controlled Regions, where laws are enforced and resources flowed freely by his command.

Partially Controlled Regions, where loyalty was uncertain.

Contested Regions, where while he did hold legitimacy, authority was challenged outright.

Control determined everything. How much say he had in a territory. Passive Kingdom Point Income. Stability. Even how quick rebellion could spread.

Then came the matter of troops.

The system grouped troops not by name but function and to get more information on them he would have to have more control.

The first was the spawn option.

This allowed him to get troops that was absolutely loyal to him by using Kingdom Points.

The cost was proportional to their type, strength and equipment.

Spawned troops were loyal at birth, but they were not exactly free. They consumed food, resources and required equipment maintenance.

Convert Troop was the second.

It converts civilians to available units. While it was cheaper that simply summoning them there was a lot more requirement, From similar strength, Similar stats and minimum loyalty threshold.

Finally, the Store which was locked until further notice.

Just the information was complete another screen popped up before him.

[Do you wish to open Newbie Gift Pack?]

[Yes] [No]

Alexander stared at the options for several seconds.

He had seen enough absurd things today and throughout his life to know one thing

Refusing was stupidity.

'Who says no to living life on easy method?'

He chose yes but simply deciding to without hesitation.

[Yes]

[Opening Newbie Gift Pack…]

One line after another appeared.

[You have received 1,000 Kingdom Point (KP)]

[You have received x 1 Unique Spawn Card]

[You have received x 1 Troop Unlock Card]

[You have received x 1 Ruler Ability Card]

[You have received x 1 Talent Upgrade (One Time use Card)]

[Special requirement fulfilled…]

[You have unlocked x 1 Unique Ability (Deserved Pride(A))]

[Goodluck]

Alexander ignored the Kingdom Point for now since the store wasn't available.

'Use Unique Spawn card.'

[Spawning loyal and unique Expert rank entity]

[Select one option: Swordsman, Shield bearer, Mage, Assassin, healer]

Alexander didn't have to think for long before he chose his option

Before Alexander's eyes, tiny motes of light began to gather in the air.

[Summon successful]

The system cold prompt echoed in his mind and in a blink of an eye, the light motes gathered and thickened.

A silhouette took form before him…

A hooded man dressed in completely black light armour knelt before him… his face was almost entirely swallowed by darkness cast by his hood.

'Your Majesty.'

[Name: Alfred Darkheart]

[Race: Human]

[Class: Umbral Blade]

[Rank: Expert (5)]

[Special Ability: Darkness Merge(A), Spectral(A)]

Alexander immediately checked the description of his skills.

[Darkness Merge(A): Merges completely with ambient darkness, erasing presence, mana, and intent. Detection is impossible, including during attack.]

[Spectral(A): Phases through any structure with a microscopic opening, bypassing all physical and magical alarms.]

[Troop Type has become available: Shadowbound Reavers (Locked)]

[Do you wish to use Troop unlock Card to unlock?]

[Yes] [No]

Alexander could tell that they were most likely Alfred's Unit, so he accepted.

[Yes]

Working with people you are familiar with was a lot better with their original synergy not to mention their skills set was what he needed.

[Troop Name: Shadowbound Reavers]

[Type: Assassin]

[Rank: Intermediate (5)]

[Special Ability: Shadow Merge(B), Shadow movement(B)]

[Cost: 100 Kingdom Point (KP)]

Alexander quickly checked their Special abilities description.

[Shadow Merge(B): Merge with surrounding shadows, dimming the user's physical presence, mana and intent. Direct contact, strong perception or intense light can disrupt merge. Attacking briefly breaks concealment]

[Shadow Movement(B): Temporarily shifts the body into a semi-spectral state, allowing passage through narrow gaps, thin barriers or layered obstacles. Physical obstruction and low-tier magical wards can be easily bypassed without triggering alerts]

'So basically, watered down version of Alfred's own abilities.'

[Summon successful]

Alexander immediate purchased ten Shadowbound Reavers and a similar process took place again.

The motes of light combine, and 10 men appeared behind Alfred and immediately knelt.

"Your Majesty." They greeted as one, their loyalty radiating with unshakeable certainty.

Alexander nodded with satisfaction, loyalty of summoned units was absolute, and they could kill anyone in the intermediate rank without getting found while Alfred could most likely kill beyond his realm.

Not to mention, their ranks could also be raised by killing,

'Now that one ability I want.' Alexander thought before getting back to the issue at hand.

Although they seemed overpowered, he didn't think that they were enough to keep his empire.

And one thing he would never do was give up something that was his.

So, he needed more. More Kingdom Points. More Loyal Subordinate. More Strength.

The answer… Kingdom Point. According to the system one of the easiest ways to earn them was killing.

One thing he did not lack was people to kill.

From the people on his council to the nobles… all wolves in sheep clothing bleeding the empire dry, to the criminals, bandits and gangs that flourished unchecked to traitors that broke of from the throne to form their own powers.

Not the mention hostile nations that loomed like predators all waiting to reap a share of the empire.

And above all the Sun God Theocracy.

But first thing first… the criminals and gangs were free points.

"Alfred led your team and clear out one of the major gangs in the capital city... kill them in the most cruel, brutal way and hang their leaders' bodies… make sure to leave no proof behind."

"Yes, your majesty." Alfred bowed before he and the ten shadowbound reavers vanished."

'Damn, are they that fast or did they really simply merge?' Alexander thought as he stared at the door waiting for it to creak open of something but after staring for a minute and nothing happened, he called out.

"Alfred?" but no response came.
