Chapter 137 - Chapter 138: Godric

Audrey had already inherited such legacies twice before.

Once is new, twice is familiar, and the third or fourth time, you're practically friends.

Audrey floated in the vast "universe," calm and composed, quietly waiting for the inheritance to arrive.

However, the inheritance did not arrive as expected.

Instead, a figure manifested before Audrey.

It was a man with flaming red hair and a matching fiery-red scruffy beard.

His eyes, a nearly transparent pale blue, gave his boisterous face a sense of complete rationality, as if reminding everyone that the person before them was a wizard, not a warrior.

"You aren't a Gryffindor student. Why are you accepting my trial? Didn't you see the Gryffindor house crest at the entrance?"

The man spoke with great majesty.

"Wait, you're a descendant of that coward Salazar! Ha! You actually have designs on my legacy? Utterly ridiculous!"

Audrey shrugged. "Fine. Since I'm not welcome, just send me back. I'm already quite wealthy anyway; I'm not exactly desperate for the pittance you're offering."

The man was stunned. Audrey's words were clearly not what he expected.

"You aren't even going to try and fight for it?"

"Fight for what? Didn't you just tell me not to dream about your legacy?"

The man was momentarily at a loss for words.

"Well... as long as you ask me nicely, it's not like I couldn't make you my heir."

Audrey rolled her eyes and raised her crossed hands. Instantly, vines appeared in the void, forming a portal—this simple gateway connected directly to her dormitory. Though a bit troublesome, it was more stable than Apparition and immune to outside interference.

She controlled her body, floating toward the portal.

Greatly shocked, the man pushed his right hand forward. Space shifted, and the distance between Audrey and the portal seemed to become infinite. Though it appeared to be right before her eyes, it was as distant as the horizon.

Audrey gave a cold snort and clapped her palms together.

The portal "whooshed" right in front of her. Having broken through Gryffindor's little trick, she didn't hesitate to dive through the door.

Still trying to manipulate me? You're far too used to getting your way!

It's just a legacy. Who cares!

"Good girl, wait!"

The man shouted urgently. "I was just joking with you. Don't take it so seriously!"

Audrey, with half a leg already through the portal, stepped back out upon hearing this.

"Fine, speak. What exactly do you want?"

The man chuckled to hide his embarrassment. "I am Godric Gryffindor. You should know who I am."

Audrey nodded. "Of course I know you. I also know you've known me for a while, since I obtained Helga Hufflepuff's legacy."

Gryffindor asked in surprise, "How did you know?"

"The one presiding over Hufflepuff's trial wasn't Helga herself, but you. Every person's magic has its own personality. I have never seen two people with identical magical signatures!"

Gryffindor became even more embarrassed. If Audrey had known all along, hadn't his little act just now been like that of a clown?

"Helga was unwilling to leave her consciousness behind; she insisted on trusting the wizards of future generations," Gryffindor said, looking somewhat dejected. "But she was wrong. Wizards are getting worse with every generation. They have even forgotten why wizards were born in the first place..."

Audrey smiled faintly. "I've already passed the trial. You could have handed over the legacy long ago."

She looked at Gryffindor.

"But you insisted on appearing to play this scene. I'm certain you have something to discuss with me. So, I'll repeat myself: what exactly is it?"

Gryffindor shook his head. "As expected of Salazar's blood, that little brain of yours is quite sharp. Yes, I do have something to discuss with you."

Chapter 138: Godric (2/2)

"I hope you obtain all the legacies of our four founders and take complete control of Hogwarts. Then, dismiss Albus Dumbledore. Although he is a good man and a Gryffindor, I need you to correct Hogwarts' educational path and change the current state of the British wizarding world!"

Audrey: ...

Gryffindor continued, "I observe the students constantly, and I find they are getting worse with each generation—wizards a hundred years ago still had some spine, but now? A single terrorist can turn all of Britain upside down!"

"Look at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classes over the last twenty years! What kind of rubbish are they teaching? A wizard's greatest skill is combat! It is not researching how many ways a Levitation Charm can be used!"

"So," Audrey interrupted him, "you want me to be the Headmaster?"

Gryffindor nodded repeatedly. "Exactly. Although you are a Slytherin—a Slytherin in every sense of the word—the Defense Against the Dark Arts classes you teach have impressed me! I believe that under your leadership, the young witches and wizards will grow into towering trees!"

Gryffindor continued, "Danger has never truly gone away. We wizards are far from a point where we can relax! Audrey Astley—no, Hydrus Slytherin! Are you willing to inherit Hogwarts and lead the British wizarding world toward glory?"

Gryffindor's words were highly infectious and stirring. He spoke with deep emotion and used rich, expressive body language.

Besides being a great duelist, swordmaster, and master of magic, he had also once been a remarkable orator.

Gryffindor looked at Audrey fervently, waiting and hoping for the girl to nod.

"No, I'm not willing. It's too much trouble!"

Audrey said, "Being a part-time professor is already exhausting enough. Now you want me to be the Headmaster?"

Gryffindor: ...

Godric Gryffindor was extremely embarrassed. This girl before him seemed even more headstrong than Rowena Ravenclaw.

He shook his head.

"Fine. If you don't want to be Headmaster, you don't have to, but you must still inherit the legacy."

Gryffindor beckoned, and a "shooting star" flew from the depths of the "universe." It traveled thousands of miles in an instant and vanished into Audrey's brow.

Audrey blinked her eyes. This time, her head didn't feel like it was about to explode, nor did she lose consciousness. she even had the energy to chat with Gryffindor.

"By the way, Mr. Gryffindor, my ancestor and Lady Hufflepuff both built their vaults inside the castle. Why did you place yours in the Forbidden Forest?"

"You know how it is. Our Gryffindor children are a bunch of little troublemakers. If they knew there was a 'Gryffindor Trial,' I suspect they would treat this place as an adventure playground. In less than a hundred years, they would have broken everything here!"

Audrey deeply agreed. Among the four common rooms, only the stairs in the Gryffindor common room were broken. One must realize that the castle itself possessed a self-repairing charm; just how much ruckus did they have to cause to break stairs enchanted with a permanent mending spell?!

Before long, the transfer of Gryffindor's legacy was complete.

In addition to gaining another quarter of the castle's ownership, Audrey mastered over a dozen powerful ancient spells and sophisticated swordsmanship, as well as the skill of blacksmithing—yes, Gryffindor was an excellent blacksmith; the Sword of Gryffindor was actually forged by him and the goblins together.

"Alright, farewell then, child! Personally, I still hope you find Ravenclaw's vault and obtain her legacy. That way, you can master all of Hogwarts."

As Gryffindor spoke, he gradually faded away.

In the next moment, the world turned upside down. Audrey felt as if she were being flushed down a toilet. After a bout of spinning, she returned to her dormitory.

Exhausted, she didn't even bother to clean herself before falling onto her bed and into a deep sleep.

After she fell asleep, Momo quietly appeared and carefully removed the dust and stains from her body before vanishing once more.
