"You want answers, don't you?"
Giulia grinned broadly as she threw her bag over her shoulder on Friday. The hallway was already half empty, voices echoing from the lockers.
Lina avoided her gaze. "What answers?"
"The ones you've been looking for since you saw him with blood."
Lina flinched. Her stomach clenched. "Giulia, what are you talking—"
"Come with me," she interrupted calmly. "Tonight. Then you'll see for yourself."
"Where to?"
"You'll find out."
Giulia's voice sounded almost cheerful, but something flickered in her eyes that didn't look like fun.

The sun had long set when Lina stepped off the bus. The city lay in that murky half-light between neon and darkness. The wind smelled of metal and rain.
Giulia was already waiting, hood pulled low, phone gripped firmly in her hand. "Don't ask, don't talk," she said. "Just watch."
Lina nodded, although everything inside her screamed that she should turn back.
