Sofia finally seemed to notice that everyone was still watching her, and instead of feeling uncomfortable, she let out a small laugh. One of those soft, crystalline laughs that seemed designed to disarm any suspicion before it could turn into an accusation. She brought a hand to her chest with an expression of charming surprise and looked around the dining room as if she had just suddenly discovered that she was surrounded by unfamiliar faces.
—My goodness… —she murmured, her eyes widening slightly—. There are so many new faces.
Her gaze began to roam across the table with an almost childlike curiosity. She smiled at one, delicately tilted her head toward another, and before anyone could respond, she began greeting everyone as if she had been waiting years for that moment. She asked their names, remembered the ones she had just heard, and made little comments about their dresses, their suits, or any detail she could find. She seemed genuinely delighted to meet them.
Too delighted.
