The roar of the jeep's engine echoed in the distance, breaking the silence that had taken hold of the territory since the sun began to hide behind the mountains. My jaw tensed as I heard the familiar sound, and my hands clenched into fists as I walked toward the entrance of the main house. Caleb was by my side, his expression as somber as mine, though his brown eyes sparkled with a poorly disguised hint of amusement.
"Relax, Damian. I'm sure they have a good excuse," he commented, though his tone suggested he didn't believe a word of what he was saying.
"A good excuse?" I growled, turning to glare at him. "They took my jeep without permission, Caleb. And we're not talking about just any pair of girls. One is my sister, who seems to not have an ounce of common sense, and the other is Luna. Have you forgotten that just a few months ago she swore she would kill Eliza if she crossed her path again?"
Caleb raised his hands in surrender, but his mocking smile didn't disappear.
