Blood still stained my fangs. I could taste the metallic flavor on my tongue while my chest rose and fell forcefully, my lungs burning from the intensity of the fight. The renegade wolf had fled, but there was no satisfaction in my victory. Not when she remained there, trembling against the tree, her lost gaze filled with fear and her fragile body struggling to stay upright.
The bond between us was a fire slowly consuming me; I wanted to keep my distance, but something prevented me from doing so.
