Chapter 17 - Chapter sixteen – The City of Power

Balancing my new routine was harder than I expected.

Every day I found myself torn between training, refining the ki generator, and improving the robot's design. The goal was simple: create a machine that produced more ki while consuming less energy.

Simple… but never easy.

Six months passed in what felt like a blur of soldering tools, cracked metal frames, and long nights of meditation to keep my ki control sharp. But in the end, I finally created it—the most efficient version of my robot so far.

This new model possessed a power level of 1,000, required no external battery, and even included a storage cell that absorbed excess ki. Any ki-based attack that hit the robot could also be absorbed and converted into power. At maximum charge, it could temporarily boost itself to 15,000 for about three minutes.

A year ago, such a thing would've been unthinkable.

Now it was just another step forward.

I handed the finished robot to Goku for training. His grin was so wide it almost split his face.

Then Bulma appeared in the doorway, dressed in her lab coat and… battle armor?

"Check this out," she said proudly.

Her power level, measured by her improved scouter, had skyrocketed from 120 to 2,400—a twentyfold increase when her armor activated.

Watching her test it was actually impressive.

Not because of martial arts skill—she still fought like a scientist swinging a wrench—

but because of how far she'd pushed Earth's technology in such a short time.

She tossed me a set of armor shaped like my training undershirt, along with heavier training gear modeled after what Kami gave me.

"And the best part," Bulma said, tapping something on my wrist, "is this."

A small device on my left wrist hummed to life.

"It generates a localized gravity field. Only affects you. Starts at double gravity and goes up to ten times.

You're welcome."

I stared at her, genuinely moved.

"This… Bulma, this is incredible."

She crossed her arms, pretending not to blush. "Well, someone has to keep you from getting lazy."

Then she added:

"By the way, my dad wants to see you. Says it's important."

I adjusted my new gear. "Alright. Let me thank you properly first."

"Better bring me something good to eat next time," she smirked.

I left her workshop feeling strangely energized—and not just from the gravity field.

A City Powered by Ki

Dr. Brief's lab was as chaotic as ever—cats wandering between machines, wires dangling everywhere, and the doctor himself bent over a blueprint.

Without looking up, he greeted me with a casual, "Ah, Nappa my boy. Just in time."

He led me down a metallic hallway and stopped in front of a massive steel door.

"I've built something based on your ki generator research," he said. "I think you'll like it."

The door opened.

Inside was a room the size of a football field.

Walls reinforced with alien alloy.

Flooring designed to absorb impact.

Monitors lining the walls tracking energy flow.

"This is…" I whispered. "A training arena?"

"More than that," Dr. Brief replied. "A ki-absorption combat chamber."

He gestured toward the floor.

"Try it."

I raised my power to 3,000—nothing too crazy—and fired a small ki blast.

The moment it touched the surface, the blast vanished without a trace.

I blinked. "It absorbed everything."

"Exactly," he said, smiling. "Up to a power level of 3,000 per attack. And the absorbed energy goes here."

He led me to a giant container filled with swirling light.

"That," he said proudly, "is the accumulated ki blast you just produced."

The energy inside the container crackled like caged lightning.

"With this amount, we could power an entire city."

I stared at him. "A city…?"

Dr. Brief nodded.

"In fact, we're already building one."

My breath caught.

He continued, "We're constructing a new city centered around four of these training chambers. Fighters can train, release energy, and the absorbed ki will power everything—from homes to factories."

I was speechless.

"And in the center of that city," he added lightly, "will be your new mansion."

"…My mansion?"

"Oh, yes. Along with a large research lab for you and the team I'm assembling. You'll lead the project—mass production of your ki robots, ongoing improvements, and whatever else you dream up."

My mind spun.

"It will be ready in six months," Dr. Brief finished. "Construction has already begun."

Then he handed me something unexpected:

A familiar training robot.

The old one. The model with a power level of 250.

…Except he didn't hand it to me.

"I actually presented this to the King of Earth," he explained. "Very helpful in securing political support. With his approval, we're already assigning residents to the new city so it'll be functioning from day one."

He then pushed a duplicate unit into my hands.

"This one is for you. A memento. Or a backup."

I held the robot gently.

For the first time since arriving on this planet, I felt something solid under my feet.

A direction.

A purpose.

A future.

"Six months," I said quietly.

"Six months," Dr. Brief repeated.
