Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 It's a Pity There's No System

If Matt hadn't been unable to drive, he would have already left. But he was reluctant to give up the opportunity. Before using the enhancement potion, Matt wouldn't have been like this.

But after feeling the continuous power provided by the enhancement potion, he couldn't help but succumb to it. This was even under relatively insufficient conditions.

If, as Wilford said, there was a mature research team, wouldn't they be able to create an even stronger virus?

  Power, wealth, and longevity...

Thorn's car restarted. This time, there was no idle chatter, but Bai Mu was in a very good mood, almost letting out a pleasant hum. Killing the bastard who was shouting for legal punishment felt amazing!

He was already satisfied. Next, he just needed to leave this place smoothly. Since arriving in this strange dream, Bai Mu had noticed that the people here had a collectively abnormal 'language comprehension'.

It was normal for them to be able to communicate smoothly with Thorn. Thorn was a corpse from the sewers, but what about the natives here?

"We're almost at the rendezvous point. It's only a ten-minute walk. You can get out of the car." Thorn stopped the car.

"Let's go." Matt got out of the car without hesitation. He had considered stealing the box on the way, but the gunman, Eller, was already on Thor's side, and they wouldn't stand a chance. It was better

to leave quickly; they still had diluted vaccines, which were valuable.

"Boss Matt…" Watching the departing car, his henchman, Buddy, hesitated, already prepared to act.

"Use the enhancement serum first. With our enhanced bodies, what can't we do?" Matt said coldly.

Having experienced the enhancement serum firsthand, Matt had a clear understanding of the difference and knew that taking action would be pointless. Without Thor, based on what White Curtain had done, he would have fed that guy to the zombies on the way!

Buddy nodded and used the enhancement serum without hesitation. He had some reservations before, but since Matt was still alright, he used it without worry.

"Let's not rush out. Let's loot somewhere else first."

Wilfer was killed by White Curtain, so his original plan couldn't be realized. He could only go to Zero Yuan Shopping. That way, even if he went back, he could make a lot of money. Even if he couldn't go back, he could still get rich with the items from Zero Yuan Shopping.

Even with just one vial of enhancement potion, it was already a huge profit. Who would want to miss out on more opportunities?

On White Curtain's side, Thorn didn't go to the rendezvous point immediately. Instead, he went to another place, which was also one of Thorn's supply points. Here, he found a small cutting machine.

"Open this box first. When you leave, each of you take a dose of vaccine." Thorn said and started working. Now that he had confirmed there were no bombs in the box, there was no need to be cautious.

The metal briefcase was very sturdy, but it was no match for specialized destructive tools. The combination lock was only designed to prevent people from opening it in an emergency.

The box contained two layers, a total of ten containers with metal protective shells. The vaccines and viruses were different colors. One of the five vials in the first layer was half empty, while the containers in the second layer were all full.

Thorn took out all the vaccines, giving one to Bai Mu and Eller, then took out Bai Mu's enhancement serum: "Are you sure you don't want to keep it? This is the last chance."

Bai Mu shook his head: "I don't trust Wilford."

If he had a cheat system that could identify the substance's properties, he would have kept it, but he didn't.

Thorn put the enhancement serum into the metal briefcase, removed the metal protective shell from the virus stock container, and then inserted a time bomb set for ten minutes.

Thorn had a strong destructive tendency towards viruses; taking the vaccines was enough, why take the virus stock?

Research? Aren't there enough zombies for research? Locking the box securely under a pile of explosives, Thorn quickly said, "Let's go, we have nine minutes!"

Eller, somewhat speechless, put away the vaccine and said to Thorn, "Can we really take this out?"

He didn't think the people at the rendezvous point would let them pass so easily; there would definitely be a body search. This thing was related to the virus, so why should they take it away, unless they left without going through the rendezvous point?

"After the inspection at the rendezvous point, I will bring your things back to you intact." At this point, Thorn stared at the gunman, Eller, "But I can't guarantee that your quarantine period won't be extended after using the enhancement drug." The

enhancement drug, after all, was still a type of virus. Even if Wilfer guaranteed that it had been modified with the vaccine, and that after use, the virus would deeply integrate with the user and no longer be infectious...

Whether it's contagious or not isn't up to Thorn to decide, but rather to the experts. Considering Wilfer's reputation as a liar, Thorn wouldn't offer any guarantees.

"...This is an opportunity to contact the supernatural, and I don't want to miss it. After I complete the enhancement, I'll find a way to get through the rendezvous point myself." Gunman Eller gritted his teeth, deciding to use the enhancement serum. It had a built-in injection function, making it very convenient.

"Get in the car, I'll give you one last ride."

Thorn didn't try to stop Eller, nor did he ask for the vaccine back. He drove away with White Curtain and Eller. A few minutes later, a powerful explosion engulfed the supply point.

After moving to another location, Eller got out of the car.

  "Good luck."

Parting ways near the rendezvous point was inevitable. For Eller, obtaining the virus vaccine was an unexpected bonus.

As for why he didn't cooperate with Matt before, it was because Wilfer was dead. Without a clear stance, Eller worried Matt might try to steal the vaccine and virus halfway through, and he didn't want that kind of conflict.

Watching the departing car, Eller found a safe house, immediately took out the enhancement potion, unscrewed the cap, and plunged it into his arm. The burning sensation spread rapidly along his arm, and he let out a soft breath.

  "Extraordinary..."

In the car, Bai Mu, who had returned to the passenger seat, yawned. Putting aside the reliability of the enhancement potion, using it would make getting through the rendezvous point much more difficult.

Even if they eventually reached the rendezvous point, would they be able to pass the quarantine check?

Instead of going to the rendezvous point, they might try to leave from somewhere else... Hmm, hopefully they could avoid the military's sight and escape Great Bear City just as the nuclear bombs were about to hit. Bai Mu wished them good luck.

  "Regretting it?"

Thorn lit a cigarette and asked Bai Mu with a smile.

  "A little."

"Haha, your body is in pretty good shape now, want a cigarette?"

Bai Mu shook his head: "I don't smoke."

"Oh." Thorn tossed the cigarette out the car window: "Don't hide anything during the inspection later. If you like guns, wait until we leave Bear City, I'll send you a batch of legal ones."

At the rendezvous point, Bai Mu and Thorn were spotted by snipers as soon as they got out of the car. People in hazmat suits came over and gave them a body search and disinfection, taking away everything suspicious from their bodies. Experiencing this for the first time, Bai Mu felt a lot of pressure.

Anyone who's seen Resident Evil knows that places like this, scenes like this, inevitably lead to various conspiracy theories.

However, after arriving at the quarantine location, Bai Mu was quite surprised to find that there were quite a few survivors from Bear City, and he didn't receive any special treatment. Thorn received special treatment.

After Thorn 'reported his duties,' he was taken elsewhere for questioning.

Bai Mu, who had hitched a ride with Thorn, was just a small fry.
