Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: The Illusion of Permission.

Captian didn't say anything, but his grip on me loosened significantly.

The moment I felt it, joy bloomed in my chest, I immediately sprang off the piano like a monkey and bolted. But just as I reached the door, his voice drifted from behind me:

"If you like a certain style of clothing, tell Ronan to buy it. I'm not someone who takes pleasure in mistreating people."

My footsteps froze. My expression shifted several times as panic washed over me.

I'm doomed he knew everything.

But… he wasn't wrong. I really didn't like this pale-pink dress at all.

I muttered a tiny reply and then dashed even faster.

When I reached the first floor, the very first thing I did was frantically check every corner of the living room to see whether there were hidden cameras. If he truly installed surveillance here, then this man named Captian was absolutely deranged. The living room was supposed to be a place for relaxation, if he put monitors here, it would be beyond terrifying.

I searched everywhere. But I found nothing.

So… there really weren't any cameras? Then how did Captian know everything so precisely? Did he have some kind of supernatural hearing or X-ray vision?

While I was tiptoeing around looking for hidden devices, Nanny Alley finally couldn't help asking:

"Mrs. Anderson, what are you searching for?"

Dusting my sleeves, I pressed my lips together, my expression serious.

"Nanny Alley, do we… have surveillance equipment installed inside the living room?"

She blinked and then nearly burst into laughter.

"Mrs. Anderson, what are you thinking? There are cameras outside the villa, yes. But inside? Why would anyone install surveillance inside their own home?"

So she really thought I was accusing Captian of being some kind of pervert.

"But…" I still frowned.

"Then how did he know the Baileys came today? And even exactly what I said to them?"

Nanny Alley chuckled.

"Probably someone walked by and overheard. Don't be fooled by how spacious the villa looks there are actually many people coming and going. It's normal if someone heard your conversation unintentionally."

Hearing that, a huge weight lifted from my chest.

Good, no surveillance.

Otherwise I would never feel comfortable sitting in this living room again.

Right then, Ronan approached us holding a notebook and pen.

"Mrs. Anderson, President Anderson asked me to check what clothing styles you like."

After sleeping on it, I had completely forgotten about the clothing issue. Hearing Ronan mention it again made my face heat up. Something about this felt vaguely wrong… but still, everything in my wardrobe was dresses. If I didn't buy some casual outfits, it would be inconvenient.

"I want a few sets of casual streetwear, and for the dresses… lighter colors."

I raised my chin slightly as I thought.

Ronan scribbled rapidly so fast that anyone passing by might think he was taking shorthand notes.

He worked at the speed of light. Not long after lunch, he returned with ALL the outfits I wanted every single piece in my exact measurements, fitting so perfectly it felt like they had been custom tailored.

Holding them, I had to admit Ronan's taste was excellent.

The colors, the styles everything aligned with my preferences.

"Mrs. Anderson, do you like them?" Ronan asked with a grin.

I tucked the clothing neatly into the cabinet.

"Thank you. I like every single one of them."

Right then, my phone rang.

Hezze.

Ronan watched curiously as I picked up the call, and before I could speak, Hezze's urgent voice burst out:

"Rosy, emergency! I need your help!"

The anxiety in her tone made my own heart tighten.

"Hezze, calm down. Talk slowly. What do you need me to do?"

Through the call, she explained everything from beginning to end:

Their hospital's senior internal medicine specialist, the one who usually handled cardiac emergencies and complex chronic cases had been poached by another hospital. They'd posted job listings for weeks and still hadn't found a replacement. Their Internal Medicine Department was well-known, and leaving that position vacant meant losing a huge number of patients. In modern terms: losing a mountain of money.

After venting, Hezze practically sputtered:

"Rosy, isn't it infuriating? Stealing specialists from other hospitals—disgusting!"

"My little princess," I said gently, "don't get too angry. It's bad for your health."

"Rosy! Don't talk to me in that voice! You're going to turn me gay!"

I almost dropped my phone.

Turn her gay?

I absolutely could not handle this accusation!

She paused, then continued:

"Anyway, Rosy, could you fill in as the temporary internal medicine doctor? Just until we find someone else."

I almost agreed immediately but then I remembered Captian.

This man gave me freedom to wander around town… but who knew if someone was secretly following me? If he found out his little wife was working in a hospital, who knew what kind of disaster would unfold?

Sensing my hesitation, Hezze sounded crestfallen.

"So you can't?"

"It's not that."

I bit my lip, clutching my phone.

"I need to tell President Anderson first. You know what he's like."

Just hearing his name made her tremble.

"That man… he's terrifying. If he doesn't agree, don't force it, okay?"

Now she was worrying for me.

I smiled faintly.

"Relax. I'll just ask. If everything's fine, I'll call and let you know."

We chatted a bit more before hanging up.

I stared at the black phone screen, dazed.

Of course I wanted to treat patients real practice was far more valuable than textbooks. And I could also earn some pocket money. But I was afraid Captian would refuse. This man was unpredictable, I couldn't act without telling him first.

Plus… a job meant my own income. That alone was tempting.

Ronan set down the clothes he was folding.

"Mrs. Anderson, President Anderson doesn't like his woman showing her face outside."

He'd been listening and analyzing.

And honestly? Knowing Captian, he was absolutely right.
