He kissed Mei's collarbone softly, tenderly, his lips moving with careful gentleness across her skin. Mei held onto Otis's back, her nails pressing lightly into him. Otis felt her nails, yet there was no discomfort. Just as Mei had said whenever he felt that sharp sting on his back, all he would think of was Mei behind him, gently kissing him, and her flushed, glowing face in the dark.
In his mind, there was only one thought:
She's the cutest in the world.
They fell asleep in each other's arms. Mei slept sprawled against Otis's chest.
In the middle of the night, she slowly woke up, dazed, her consciousness gradually returning. She reached out and touched Otis's face, her fingertips softly brushing along his cheek. She had done this countless times—tracing his features with her fingers. She had always liked Otis, even after they broke up. But liking someone, and being together… sometimes felt like two different matters altogether.
