Chapter 41 - Chapter 41

Fire is a foreign concept to Alvonia.

With special heating stones heated by those with low attunement to the blessing of fire and gems that glow to produce light, Alvonia has seen no need for fire in nearly two centuries and unlike the gradually replaceable element, the power of the other elements were seen as extremely useful.

The power of the wind could be used to set the table quickly in diners, pubs, restaurants and households, travel quickly and lift heavy or burdensome objects, the power of water can be used to create rain for crops and cool the air on a hot summer day. The power of the earth can be used to grow anything and find precious metals that can be useful for water. When faced with all this facts, fire was classified as useless and those blessed by the spirit of fire were automatically considered the same.

After so many berating comments despite building all sorts of weapons and armour for the benefit of Alvonia, those blessed by the spirit of fire had begun to accept that they would always been looked down on but when the Princess Marina who was also blessed by the spirit of fire like them showed off inventions that can only be created by those blessed by fire, created fire itself and made a flaming torch with the little ingredients that she had, those blessed by the spirit of fire in the stands who couldn't even do anything when she was mocked couldn't help but roar because there stood someone who wasn't ashamed of the blessing that they had all began to feel ashamed of.

"Well this complicates things." someone whispered in the arena.

In the plains of Dracia

"Don't Breathe!" Princess Marina thought as she tried to stop herself from shaking.

"It's okay." Princess Marina thought as she desperately averted her eyes from the fire in her hands.

"Keep walking!" Princess Marina thought as she bit her lip and conjured up a wind spear to go through the five remaining winged.

"The hunt will end in five minutes." Princess Marina thought as she held the torch towards the blackbirds.

"Just five minutes." Princess Marina thought but as her hand couldn't help but tremble and she got mad at her self.

"It's just for five minutes!" Princess Marina yelled internally.

"Can't you just hold on for five minutes?!" Princess Marina thought as tears gathered up in her eyes.

"It's the past." Princess Marina whispered to herself but as the blackbirds let out a horrifying cry due to the proximity of the fire, Princess Marina's eyes almost rolled to the back of her head.

Flashback

"Ahhh!" Estania yelled in panic as she saw the state of her village.

Not brothering to protect her nose from the fumes in the smoke, Estania ran into her village and broke down door after door to search for any survivors.

"They have to be alive!" Estania screamed as she frantically searched her burnt village.

"They have to." Estania said as she searched under rubble.

"Someone has to be." Estania said with her voice catching at the end as she rummaged under a collapsed wooden beam in a house.

Hearing a terrifying scream from outside the house she was rummaging in,Estania burst out the door in a frenzy. Trying to pinpoint the scream in her dishevelled state, Estania bolted to the source of the sound and while rounding a corner, Estania met Forestina burning.

Stopping in her tracks, Estania fell to her knees at the sight of someone she considered a sister burning. Wretching at the sight of Forestina burning and the fumes coming off of her, Estania broke open a house in search of water. Filling a jug with water and pouring a bit of detergent in it, Estania ran outside only to find that the fire had cooled and Forestina was charred beyond comprehension.

Flashback end

After the terrifying cry of the blackbirds, the barrier began to tremble as a dozen black bird began to rain down hail.

In the Arena

"Stop the hunt!" yelled a man who was part of the ten people that roared Princess Marina's name.

"There are only two minutes on the clock, the hunt is as good as ended." The man said pleadingly.

Smiling awkwardly, the announcer said "The hunt cannot be stopped." and the audience began to throw stuff at him.

"She is the princess!" someone yelled.

"She is already at the top of the rankings, and she has done a feat that should normally be done by several people alone. Can't the rules be overlooked especially since it's only two minutes left on the clock." a woman said pleadingly.

Under the canopy of the Royals

"Stopping the hunt will mean that everything she has done so far will be invalidated." The Earl said with a sigh.

"The hunt of the winged barely has any rules but there are two rules that have been followed from generation to generation." the Earl thought as the barrier trembled

"The first rule is that a contestant cannot forfeit without a grievous injury and the second rule, is that the hunt cannot be stopped once it begins." The Earl thought as a small crack began to appear on the barrier.

"To break this rule even for that of noble blood can be seen as unfair and impartial and the Sun of the Empire cannot risk that in the Empire's current state." The Earl thought as he watched the Sun of the Empire grit his teeth in pain.

In the plains of Dracia

"Princess Marina!" Adric yelled as he ran towards the cracking barrier.

"Princess Marina!" Aldric yelled as the barrier shattered
