Evelin's POV
"Yeah, I never truly believed you. I was just gambling, betting that this time, you wouldn't let me down and would actually keep your promise to send me back when the moment comes," I said. "Jimmy, I hope I didn't make the wrong bet."
He gave a bitter smile. "If you end up winning this bet, would you ever be willing to trust me?"
"Trust isn't something you earn just by winning a bet," I replied. "I'm going to the study to read for a bit. You can deal with your wound yourself."
With that, I turned and walked away.
I could sense Jimmy absently running his hand over the spots I'd just touched, as if my presence still lingered there.
My warmth probably still clung to his skin.
I could see a storm of emotions on his face—perhaps gratitude that I stayed, but also a deep, tearing pain. It was as if he was being mocked for a past mistake that could never be undone.
That evening, I got a call from Selina.
