"But what if Ms. Elysia wants to be with you?" Dalton pressed.
I could tell he knew he should shut his mouth—my expression made it crystal clear he needed to drop this topic.
But Dalton couldn't stay quiet when it came to Evelin. She meant everything to me, and he knew it.
I went rigid for a heartbeat.
Dalton jumped on my hesitation. "Mr. Hamilton, she told me she wants to start fresh with you. She's desperate to see you. You're still in love with her, aren't you? Just meet with her once."
"Dalton, when did I give you permission to make my choices for me?" My voice came out razor-sharp.
Dalton tensed up, clearly realizing he'd just crossed a dangerous line with his boss. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hamilton. It's just—Ms. Elysia is genuinely concerned about you. She won't stop asking to see you, so I thought—"
"There won't be a next time!" I sliced through his words. "Step out of line again, and you can forget about working for me."
