Jasmin's POV
Three days had passed since our return from Bonita Creek, and the leaderboard finally received its update. I refused to skip lunch for rankings - those jerks would snatch my food if I didn't eat first. Only after securing every last bite did I venture toward the Grand Hall.
Anticipation coursed through my veins. The excitement was almost embarrassing, but I couldn't help myself. Unfortunately, a wall of towering Alphas completely obscured my view of the board. I pressed forward, trying to weave between their broad shoulders when fingers suddenly wrapped around mine.
My pulse stuttered, racing faster. I glanced up expecting one face, but found Elliott instead.
"Come on," he said, flashing that easy smile.
I returned it reflexively, allowing him to pull me forward. The crowd parted instantly for him, none daring to obstruct his path.
Yet beneath my relief, disappointment twisted in my chest. I'd been hoping for Max.
