Jasmin's POV
My heart slammed against my ribs with brutal force.
The world tilted beneath my feet. I stared down at Clyde, still huddled in the shadow of the trees, but my mind had already fled this blood-soaked battlefield.
Blind. Clyde had lost his sight.
Even Max froze mid-stride. Through all the carnage surrounding us, I could see he was listening intently.
"That cannot be true," I breathed, as though my refusal could somehow undo what had been spoken. "How is blindness even possible? This makes no sense." Terror clawed at my chest as I dropped closer, desperate to witness those pale, vacant eyes myself.
Before Clyde could respond, a savage snarl tore through the atmosphere. My head whipped toward the sound just as Max's obsidian wolf form sailed above our heads. His enormous frame crashed into an advancing flesh-eater mid-leap. The sickening snap of splintering bone echoed while crimson droplets painted the parched earth.
They had spotted me attempting to free Clyde.
