Harris's voice haunted me like a curse, his words replaying in my mind even as I hurried through the dimly lit corridors back to the dormitory.
"Disaster always follows those who think they can outrun destiny."
The way he had spoken wasn't merely a caution. It carried the weight of prophecy, as if time itself was ticking toward something inevitable. Something I had set in motion without realizing.
My footsteps rang hollow against the empty hallway floors, each echo amplifying the unease crawling beneath my skin. The fluorescent lights above flickered intermittently, casting wavering shadows that seemed to pulse with my racing heartbeat.
What had I triggered by fighting back? By refusing to submit?
I drew a shaky breath, attempting to dispel the lingering sensation of his penetrating stare, the absolute certainty that had colored every syllable. But his presence clung to me like smoke, thick and poisonous, refusing to dissipate.
