Max's POV
My wolf exploded the second Swift's fingers touched hers. My feet carried me forward before my brain could catch up. Watching him lose on purpose, handing over that scroll like some grand romantic gesture. A love token. The words alone shredded what was left of my self-control.
It wasn't about the damn scroll. It was his face when he said it. And hers.
Jasmin looked shocked, sure, but not stunned. Her expression flickered for just a heartbeat before she smoothed it over. Too fast. Too clean for someone hearing those words for the first time. That's when it hit me like a punch to the gut. She already knew.
He'd told her he loved her before this moment. And she'd kept it from me.
Caspian went wild in my head, snarling and clawing to break free. My claws pushed through my fingertips as rage flooded my system. I stalked toward them, ready to rip Swift's throat out.
