Jasmin's POV
"Over my dead body."
My words cut through the air like a blade. Every person around us froze, some averting their gazes while others stared with wide eyes. Whispers rippled through the crowd, but nobody dared to move. Meanwhile, Max and I remained locked in our deadly staring contest.
Neither of us willing to break first.
The sound of a horn echoed from deep within the trees behind us.
The hunt had officially begun. Alphas scattered in every direction, some shifting mid-sprint as they disappeared into the forest. But we didn't move. We stood there, two wolves caught in a silent battle of wills, pride clashing against pride.
Max's grip on my wrist tightened. His face dropped closer until his warm breath caressed my ear.
"If you refuse to apologize," he whispered, his voice rough and dangerous, "then prepare to die."
