Chapter 61 - Light In The Shadows

 Light in the Shadows

Light stood in his library, surrounded by ancient tomes and flickering candlelight. His eyes scanned the pages of Demon Hunter, a fictional account of warriors who devised creative ways to kill demons. It intrigued him especially since his encounter with Thomas in the woods a year ago.

Then Albert entered.

His butler. His most loyal companion.

"Sir, a message from the Prince of Flies."

Albert handed him the note.

Light read it. His expression darkened.

"Get the car ready. We're going to see him."

 "Yes, sir."

Albert left. Light lingered, staring at the book.

Is that what this is about? Thomas?

They drove to a remote hill near the woods an abandoned farm, untouched even before the war began. Light's role in the conflict had been silence. No missiles. No reinforcements. No warnings. The people never saw the raids coming.

What a pity.

Lord of Flies hovered above the field, waiting.

Light turned to Albert.

"Do you still have that special gun I gave you?"

 "Always, sir."

 "Good. Leave the car on."

Light stepped out and approached with calm humility.

"Lord of Flies. What brings this urgent meeting?"

The demon prince's voice was low and deliberate.

"Lord of Greed has committed treason against the hierarchy."

Light didn't flinch.

"He is Lord of Greed, after all."

"Indeed. I'm updating you on the others.

Lord of Seduction remains loyal.

Lord of Sloth is stable.

Lord of Violence…"

He paused.

 "…was killed in battle."

Light's eyes widened.

 "Who?"

 "By a simple human."

Light's heart dropped.

Lord of Violence was no pushover. On a good day, Light could match him. But still—who?

"The man grows stronger," Lord of Flies continued.

"Eliminating him now would be wise. But risky. His spirit is… formidable."

Light considered this.

Can There really be a man that dangerous?

Then he shook the thought away.

"well then ill kill him when I get a hold of him."

Lord of Flies tilted his head.

"If only it were that simple.

Your Majesty wishes to wait."

Light frowned.

"My father's tactics have always been… untraditional."

"Exactly. That's why I called you.

Are you satisfied with Supreme Ruler Lucifer's regime?"

Silence.

Light's mind raced. But Light knows if I

Say the wrong thing, and I die.

"Why embarrass me with such a question about the Prince of Darkness?"

Lord of Flies paused.

"Glad to hear of your loyalty."

He flew away.

Light exhaled.

*A man killed a demon prince.

They're questioning my loyalty.

Feels like surveillance. Like my brothers are watching.*

He returned to the car.

"Albert. Where was Lord of Violence stationed?"

 "Eden, sir."

"Drive there. I need to see something."

 "As you please."

As the car rolled toward Eden, Light stared out the window.

Father… what are you planning?
