Chapter 10 - Takedown | Volume Finale

Lishawn was in battle mode as the more the lights flickered, the more the creature tried to from her and devour her whole. When she tried fixing the bulb as quick as she could, a vine wrapped itself around her neck as she struggled to breathe as it made her hit her head against bulb and it smashed, bruising her forehead and turning the room to pitch black as the red eyes appeared and when she tried to use a piece of the shattered bulb to cut the vine, another appeared and inserted itself into her mouth as liquid passed through it into her body as she struggled to breathe and her eyes rolled back as the creature moved closer.

See darling, now you can finally join me.

It mimicked her father's voice as saliva dripped down its watery mouth, Lishawn finally vulnerable and weak and most importantly, delicious. More vines forced her hands and legs together as the liquid had almost sedated her but the creature stopped when it stared at the door.

Across the hallway, Tracey and Magdalene were distracting the nurses when Maryne sneaked to the fire drill and turned it on as red flashing lights flickered across the whole institution as they found Lishawn's room and ran as fast as they could. The vine detached from her mouth as she began to choke and cough. The door opened as the trio faced the creature but in the dark, all they could see was it's red eyes and white teeth. It moved into the darkness as it vanished and they headed for Lishawn, who was still coughing.

"Hey, are you okay?" Maryne checked on her sister, handing over a water bottle. Lishawn nodded as she took a sip. Catching her breath, they heard footsteps approaching as Maryne helped Lishawn up and they went through one of the exits, escaping from the mad mouse.

They blocked all roads leading to the factory as the cops and department made their way to the site, flooding it with police tape as the men suited up and each got assigned their own bombs. Before they entered, they set up little LEDs around the factory, lighting it up so that no corner or small area had the smallest of darkness. They moved in as the chief stood by guiding them. They planted the bombs everywhere, up the stairs, near the open rooms and even near the abandoned bathrooms right by the toilets.

With almost everywhere covered, they eyed the hole in the room as three men made their way in. They alerted the Chief as they tied themselves with rope and began entering with one of them holding a light so bright they could finally see the bottom. There was a small stream that kept flowing as debris had been polluted in it. Going deeper, the signal between the radio became static as the Chief lost them.

"10 and 4, are you there over?" he asked, no response. "10 and 4, are you there! Over?" he asked yet again, no response. On his third attempt, his radio went static as it made a long annoying sound before it stopped and he could hear someone breathing. "10 and 4, is that you?" he asked, his hands shaking. Someone was laughing as he became worried as the laughing grew louder. Positioning the radio near his mouth, a little child cried and said, "You and your men should have never come here," as he dropped the radio when it screeched and yelled for his men, sending the rest to help them.

The rope stopped as the men couldn't understand why and the flashlight began to flicker. The water made sounds as they could see people running in it. The men took out their guns as they faced their light toward them and dropped it when a little girl with blood appeared out of nowhere. The men behind kept shooting as they stopped when they heard screams coming from deep down. Suddenly, the rope snapped and blood gushed out of the hole as more kids came running out and attacked the men in the room. The backup ran up the stairs as they almost made it to the room but the LED lights went dim and before they knew it, it exploded - turning the whole factory dark as the Chief knew exactly what was coming.

"And that's how that thing can be defeated and why it hasn't left you alone or never will, not unless we kill it with its weakness," Magdalene said while sitting behind Tracey on her bike. They were heading for the factory as they hoped to save the cops before they innocently died. "So everything that they're doing won't work?" "Yes, it's not foolproof and will only make the creature more dangerous... More powerful," Maryne said, turning the direction of the bike.

Lishawn began to hear the whispers again as she looked at a tree and saw the liquid come dripping down as she clutched her ears in her hands and screamed so loud that Maryne jerked on her bike. They got to their destination as Maryne grabbed Lishawn who was screaming so loud, they couldn't stand her. Tracey and Magdalene eyed the chaos that was coming within the factory as they managed to spot the chief. They helped Lishawn up and made their way to him.

The men were scared as they checked every side of them, waving their flashlights around as a child started running around crying. They tried shooting it but missed as it finally stopped and stood near one of the police. He exposed the child as his eyes began to water as he couldn't believe he was seeing his child, whom he thought was dead for good. He wanted to touch them as the others told him not to but as they tried shooting the kid, he stopped them as he wiped his tears and lunged in for a hug. "I can't believe it's you, Jimmy. Daddy missed you every day," he said, kissing the forehead of the kid as he stood still when he felt something behind the kid's back. When he checked, he saw a long vine attached as he moved back for his gun but the kid kept laughing as it jumped for his ear and bit it off, the cop screaming as blood splashed out.

The others kept shooting at it as more kids came running in and tackled them, biting and pulling off the flesh from their bodies. Shots were seen from outside the factory as the Chief ended up sending more men in for support.

The Chief become more flummoxed and scared as he could hear his men go to war but lose miserably as blood was seen across all the windows around the factory. Tracey turned him around as Lishawn stopped screaming but then threw up black liquid as Maryne repeatedly hit her back. "Listen, Chief, you have to listen to us! What you're doing is not going to solve anything!" she said but he was too focused on Lishawn who looked like she was about to die.

"He's not listening to me," Tracey said as Magdalene smacked him and he shrugged, looking at them and hearing the screams stop as Tracey forced him to face her. "Will you just listen! Your men are dying, horribly and what you're doing is only going to make things worse - because right now you are feeding it, making it stronger. You have to abandon this and hear our plan. It's per-" he interrupted Tracey. "I couldn't give a flying fuck! This thing is not going to live to see tonight and I'm not going to go to sleep until this thing is dead and with everyone else in hell," he said, grabbing one of the last bombs and running towards the factory as Lishawn finally stopped vomiting.

He arrived as he began shooting the vines as the kids' bodies were pulled into the darkness. The chief stood in the centre and saw all the dead bodies across the factory. Tearily, he reloaded his gun and started calling out for the creature. "Where are you, son of the bitch?" he yelled, shooting in between. "GET YOUR ASS OUT OF HERE, NOW!" He exclaimed, shooting repeatedly.

Red eyes appeared as they moved closer to the chief. He gasped as more red eyes appeared beneath the eyes as the eyes moved higher and the Chief almost fell back as it moved closer and he saw its silhouette. So close to each other, the creature had the perfect chance to devour him but in that moment, the chief raised his middle finger as he began shooting and the creature jumped towards its vines as if they were a cobweb.

It moved with them around the victory as he repeatedly kept missing as his ammo ran out and the creature made its vines throw him to the wall as the bomb slid out of his small bag. It appeared near him, its teeth finally out as the vines forced him to be horizontally angled. So close once again to take a bite, the trio and Lishawn intervened as they began shooting the creature as it screeched and sent its vines for them where it squinted its eyes as lights came rushing closer. Magdalene crashed the cop car through the wall and let the headlights shine on the creature, it roared as it chased into the darkness.

The Trio helped the chief up as he took one of the guns and reloaded. "Where the hell did you learn how to use a gun?" "My parents are very overprotective about my life," Tracey helped him up. Magdalene turned the car to face where the creature left as the chief and Tracey got to shooting it as it dropped down and pushed itself to the wall as the two, Chief and Lishawn got a better look at the creature, in a dim light.

They looked at it in disgust as the chief held the bomb and was ready to throw at it as Maryne spat at it and they aimed their guns at it where it smiled and everyone shook as Lishawn dropped to her knees and began screaming as its vines smashed the cars headlights and without noticing, a vine broke the car window and entered in Magdalene's mouth as Tracey ran for her where the chief began shooting wildly as Maryne tried comforting Lishawn who's screaming worsened as the creature finally stopped running and jumped to them, landing in front of the chief and bit his head off, blood splat on Lishawn and Maryne where the creature finished him.

No longer screaming, Lishawn and Maryne ran for the car as they entered through the broken the window and tried helping Magdalene, pulling the vine out of her mouth but stressed even more as she started choking and shaking at the same time where the creature jumped onto the car, by the windshield and kept banging it's head near the glass, a crack forming as they panicked Magdalene wouldn't stop going through the weird seizure and the creature was close to cracking the glass as Lishawn looked at them and knew what she had to do.

She reversed the car as the creature fell off and went to park it away from the factory. Lishawn got out of the car as she locked the doors and took the bomb out of her pocket. Maryne started questioning her, trying to exit the car but the door wouldn't open. "Lishawn, what do you think you're doing?" "Maryne, I can't do this anymore. I'm tired of living in fear of the dark and I'm tired of this creature killing innocent people. I'm done with creature and I'm done with torture," "Lishawn, what the fuck are you saying!" Maryne screamed, pulling the car door back and forth.

"Maryne, I know me and you never bonded before this situation and always treated each other horribly but I want to let you know I love you and I've always loved you. Even if you hated me or were pissed at how I treated you at school, I want to let you know that no matter where I am - I will always love you and I want you to keep one thing in mind, live your life and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Don't forget me but don't remember me too much. I love you and mom, a lot. Goodbye," she said, kissing Maryne on her forehead as Lishawn headed back in the factory while Maryne struggled to get out through the broken window.

Lishawn called out for the creature as it licked its mouth, dripping saliva and blood. "You want me, come get me," she said, heading for the hole as she managed to press some of the bombs' timers along the way. Near the hole, she started the timer and when the creature was near, she jumped in the hole as it chased after her and as she hugged the bomb and smiled, the timers went off and it exploded, causing the rest of the bombs to explode and the whole factory to be destroyed.

NO!

Maryne screamed, dropping on her knees as the factory blew up. With this happening, Magdalene stopped shaking and choking as she coughed and stood up catching her breath as Tracey hugged her where flashing blue and red lights and vans approached the scene. The trio watched the scenery of the factory crumbling down as Maryne kept screaming to her sister sacrificing herself. Fire then arose as the firefighters arrived and took it down, townsfolk watching and the news covering the action.

The old man turned off the TV where the mayor had been issuing his statement. While walking to his kitchen, the lights began to flicker as he noticed that he shouldn't have turned off the TV and he immediately took his phone and started texting one of the Trio as his living room lights burst and he was close to finishing his text as he stopped when he heard his daughter's voice.

"Daddy, where have you been? Me and Mommy miss you a lot. Please, come home," she said as he instantly sent the text and tried running for the door but something caught his leg and he fell, getting dragged trying to grip onto the floor but his old age didn't allow as he screamed, pulled and disappeared into the darkness.
