There wasn't a single soul lurking about the brightly lit hallway.
Claire glanced behind her to ensure that no one was also coming up the stairway before she slid the door shut.
Now where did she go from there?
To the right?
She turned right and tiptoed along the polished floors. In the bright light, she realized that all she had on was a cotton night dress.
It led her down another hallway with ancestral portraits hanging on both walls.
Claire recognized one of the portraits as Lord Roddick…
She had been in his house the whole time?

Her steps became hurried as she dashed across the hall.
When she was near the end of the hallway, she began to hear voices.
"I can't go that way." She muttered to herself.
Then she glanced at the windows.
Could she jump?
It was worth the risk.
Sighing, she ran to the closest window and looked through it. All she saw were rose bushes and thorns.
It would be a… prickly fall.
