Beep beep... Beep

*zzzzzzzzzzz*

The white paper cup of instant noodles slowly orbited the center of the glass dish, drowning in a harsh orange light.

*zzzzzzzzzzz*

The bright orange, plastic lid slowly crinkled and stressed under the intense heat.

*zzzzzzzzzzz*

The light bled heavily into the small, living/ bed/ dining/ bath room, pooling around the microwave in a bright circle. Dark blue shadows clung desperately to the deepest corners of the one room apartment.

*zzzzzzzzzzz*

A bright orange boy stared into the glass reflection, body slumped over itself. His face painted in a fiery orange, like some kind of metaphor. His orange eyes reflected a feeling of unease, but he tried to look past that, and focus solely on the instant ramen.

*zzzzzzzzzz*

Around... around... around... around. Slowly, slowly, slowly.

It's a little cruel, how slow time can pass if you force it to.

- Has it already been two minutes? This feels like way too long...

"ZZzzzzzz..."

The little girl, and her bright orange dog, snored softly on the pullout couch, his shadow cutting through their bodies, like some kind of metaphor.

*zzzzzzzzzz*

The bright orange lid shrunk and folded in on itself like a dead roach. The boy tried so desperately not to watch the pitiful struggle, but the only thing he could see was his own reflection.

BEEEEP... BEEEEP... BEEEEEEEEP

"Sweet, it's done," grey, quiet works slowly rose from the top of his mouth, rolling out from the top of his lip.

The dark blue shadows slowly crawled back to the walls, and took back the boys face. The still burning orange light shone quietly through the grey plume suffocating the small box.

BEEEEP... BEEEEP... BEEEEEEEEEP

*zzzzzzzzzz*

"Oh... There's a fire..."

The boy thought long and hard into his grey reflection.

Long, and hard.

BEEEEP... BEEEEEP... BEEEEEEEEEP

"Sigh," *click* "I guess that means we've gotta evacuate..."

NOVEMBER 28th, 4:30 AM - ABOUT TWO DAYS UNTIL THE EARTH EXPLODES.

Cold, icy neighbors bit icy, cold stares into my body.

"J-j-j-j- Jeez, why's it so c-c-cold..."

Julie white-knuckle held my hand, and bounced wildly up and down as if she didn't wake up only five minutes ago. She's right, it's freezing, and snowing a little, too.

The first, snow of the season...

"Yeah, I... Um... I guess it's finally turning winter," probably the last, like, of all time.

"I know that, I'm not stupid!" Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, "why are you acting so weird!"

Since the history of snow itself...

"I'm not acting weird," I didn't look at her when I spoke, "I'm just tired."

Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce,

"Bull! You're hiding something!" Belly cautiously scotched her slumped body away from the Julie, "I can smell liars, and you stink!"

What did she just say to me?! Says her!!

"SAYS YOU! I've been trying to get you to take a shower for days!" I leaned over her like a tall apartment building, "I bet you never even saw a monster made of human hair!"

"I DID! It was all gross and, like, hairy..." She cowered under my would-be shadow, "I promise..."

Her face forced a string of guilt to pull at my heart, and I slowly leaned back up. Julie, however, did not see it as an act of mercy, but rather as a foolish retreat.

"Plus, it's not like it matters anyway," she started bouncing again, although she was plenty warm, "Belly doesn't take showers, and she smells fine..."

Hot orange light bounced off of our faces as we talked, in case you couldn't piece it together, the building is on fire.
