The once-loud, mischievous boy who used to pull pranks and shout for attention had grown quiet. Too quiet.
He attended class on time, finished every assignment, answered theory questions flawlessly, and even performed his chakra control exercises perfectly. There were no outbursts, no complaints, no mistakes.

A few minutes later, he was ushered inside.
The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, was seated behind his desk, pipe in hand, the ever-present crystal ball glowing faintly beside him. He smiled warmly when he saw Iruka.
"Iruka, my boy. It's been a while. How are the students? "
Iruka bowed respectfully. "They're doing well, Lord Hokage. "
He hesitated, then added quietly, "But… I wanted to talk about Naruto. "

Hiruzen leaned back slowly, his mind already racing. So it wasn't just the reports from the ANBU—even Iruka, a normal instructor, could sense it. That meant Naruto's chakra refinement had advanced yet again. Faster than he'd predicted.
He exhaled softly. "I see. You've done well to tell me this, Iruka. "
The teacher looked uneasy. "Lord Hokage… he's not dangerous, is he? "
Hiruzen smiled faintly. "Of course not. Naruto is a good child. He's simply… gifted. "
But Iruka caught the subtle glint in his eyes—the kind of calculating calm that didn't belong to a grandfather, but to a politician.
Still, Iruka bowed and said nothing more. He turned to leave, but Hiruzen stopped him.

Iruka hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, sir. "
When Iruka had gone, the office fell silent once more. Hiruzen turned toward his crystal ball, which shimmered faintly with light. The orb's surface rippled, and the image of Naruto appeared— sitting quietly under the same tree at the Academy, eyes half-closed, seemingly at peace.
But even through the viewing sphere, Hiruzen could feel it—that faint vibration in the air around the boy, like invisible threads shifting with every movement.
"Hmm…" he murmured softly. "So even now, you're expanding your control. "
He tapped the pipe against the ashtray, his expression unreadable. "You're learning faster than I imagined, Naruto. "
The smoke from his pipe curled through the air like mist. For a moment, the reflection of the boy in the orb shimmered through it—bright blue eyes that seemed to see far beyond what they should.
"Such intelligence… such restraint, " the Hokage murmured. "A child like that will never remain a simple soldier. "
His voice dropped lower, more thoughtful. "If he continues on this path, he'll eventually reach a point where even I can't control him. "
He smiled faintly. "Then perhaps I'll have to make sure… he never realizes how deep my leash goes. "
Far away at the Academy, Naruto sneezed lightly, then smiled. "Old man, " he whispered under his breath, "you think I don't know you're watching? "
His fingers moved slightly, and a faint ripple of chakra spread through the air around him. The image inside the Hokage's crystal orb suddenly blurred—then cut off entirely.
Back in the tower, Hiruzen blinked, startled. "What—? "
The image flickered again, but the connection was gone. He stared at the now-empty orb for a long moment, his expression darkening.
"…Impossible. He disrupted the viewing technique? " He clenched his pipe tightly, and for the first time in many years, the "Professor of Ninjutsu" felt something he rarely admitted to himself.
Surprise. And just a hint of fear.
Meanwhile, back at the Academy, Naruto leaned back against the tree trunk, a calm smile on his lips. "Let's make a new rule, " he murmured to himself. "No one gets to spy on me unless I allow it. "
He glanced up at the blue sky overhead. The sunlight reflected in his eyes, and for just a moment, there was something vast and ancient in his gaze—as if the soul inside that small body was already looking down at the world from above.
