Chapter 16 - Her Light, His Curse

Ravion didn't let go of her.

Even after the seal dimmed… even after the temple quieted… even after the energy in the air settled like dust after a storm—his hands stayed on her shoulders, his forehead still touching hers, as if he feared that moving even an inch would shatter the fragile calm around them.

"Hana…" His voice was barely a breath. "Do you feel that?"

She did.

A faint warmth pulsed beneath her skin, not painful, not frightening, almost like a second heartbeat softly echoing inside her wrist. Except it wasn't hers.

It was his.

Her eyes lifted to his, and she saw it there too: the stunned realization, the fear, and the strange, helpless wonder.

"You're inside me," she whispered.

The words sounded far more intimate than she intended.

Ravion swallowed hard. "And you're inside me."

She blushed. he actually blushed too, though the crimson glow in his eyes softened it. But neither of them looked away.

This wasn't romantic heat.

This was something deeper, something irreversible.

"Ravion…" Her voice trembled. "What does this mean for you?"

"For me?" He almost laughed, except it came out more like a broken sigh. "It means I can breathe without drowning in dark energy every second."

He lifted her wrist gently, studying the faint glowing seal. His thumb brushed over it in a way that made her stomach flip.

"Hana… this light…" His brows knit, almost in awe. "This came from you."

She shook her head. "I don't have any special light."

But he kept staring at her like she was something holy.

"You do," he murmured. "And it's stronger than anything in the demon realm."

She opened her mouth to argue, but the temple floor trembled again, softer this time, like a reminder rather than a warning.

Ravion's expression hardened.

"We have to leave," he said quietly. "The temple won't stay dormant for long."

He tried to stand, but wavered.

Hana caught him by the arm before he fell again. "Ravion!"

He gave her a pained smile. "I told you… it's not easy recovering from centuries of curses."

She tightened her grip. "Lean on me."

He hesitated for a heartbeat, then he obeyed, his weight settling trustingly against her.

They made their way to the broken staircase, Hana supporting him, Ravion guiding her toward the only passage still open. The torches on the walls flickered weakly, as though sensing his weakened state.

She glanced at him. "Are you really okay?"

His lips twitched. "You worry too much."

"Well, someone has to."

He paused, just long enough to give her a look that made her heart flutter.

"I have never had anyone worry about me," he said softly.

The way he said it…

The quiet vulnerability in it…

Hana's chest ached.

"Well," she whispered, "get used to it."

His cheeks flushed again, just barely but he didn't argue.

They reached the upper hall of the temple, where the carved walls no longer glowed with dangerous sigils. The air felt less charged, more breathable.

"Hana," Ravion said suddenly.

She turned.

He wasn't looking at her, he was staring at the doorway ahead, eyes wide with alertness.

Her heart jumped. "What is it?"

He lifted a hand, silencing her.

Then she heard it too.

Footsteps.

Human footsteps.

Approaching fast.

Ravion tensed instantly. His grip tightened around her wrist, not painfully, but protectively.

"They're hunters," he whispered.

Hana froze.

"Here? But how..."

"Your mark," he said quietly. "When it activated, it released energy. They must have sensed it."

Her stomach dropped.

"What do we do?"

Ravion's jaw tightened. "We're not fighting. Not like this. I'm too weak."

He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into the shadows, pressing her gently against the stone wall. His body shielded hers completely.

Hana's breath caught.

He was close, too close but she didn't dare move.

"Stay quiet," he whispered inches from her ear.

Her heartbeat pounded so loudly she was sure the hunters would hear it.

Boots scraped against stone.

Voices echoed.

"Check the chamber, there was a surge of demon energy."

"Something big must have awakened."

"Be prepared to kill on sight."

Ravion pressed closer, tension rolling off him in waves. His breath shook against her hair.

Her hand moved on instinct, resting lightly on his chest.

He stilled.

The crimson glow in his eyes flared for half a second, then softened again, like her touch steadied him.

The hunters' footsteps grew louder.

Then

Stopped.

Just outside the hall.

Hana held her breath until her lungs screamed.

Ravion's arm tightened around her waist.

A single torch flickered near the entrance, casting long shadows across the floor.

And then.

The footsteps moved again.

Fading.

Retreating.

Gone.

Hana exhaled shakily.

Ravion didn't move.

Not until the silence returned completely.

Finally, he stepped back, but only a little. His hands lingered at her waist a moment too long before he caught himself and pulled away fully.

"Are you alright?" he asked quietly.

She nodded, though she was still trembling.

"What about you?"

He hesitated… then lifted her wrist again.

"How do you feel?" he countered.

"I asked you first."

His lips curved. "You're stubborn."

"And you avoid questions."

Their eyes held.

Finally he sighed.

"I feel… calmer," he admitted. "Like your presence is suppressing the curse."

She blinked. "My presence?"

"You're my anchor now, Hana." His voice softened dangerously. "Your light keeps my darkness contained."

Her stomach flipped.

"My… light?"

He stepped closer, slowly, so she wouldn't panic.

"You still don't understand," he murmured. "Humans don't bond seals like this. Only beings with divine energy can."

She froze.

"Divine…?"

Ravion reached up and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. His fingers brushed her cheek, just for a second but the warmth of it lingered long after.

"You're more than you think," he whispered. "And that terrifies me more than anything."

Her breath caught.

"Why?"

"Because if hunters discover what you are…" His voice broke. "They'll kill you first."

She shivered.

"And demons?"

"They'll try to claim you." His jaw clenched. "Or use you."

"And you?" she asked quietly.

He closed his eyes, as if the question hurt.

"I'll protect you," he said. "Even if it destroys me."

Her chest tightened painfully.

"Ravion…"

But he stepped back, too quickly turning away before she could reach him.

"We need to leave Seoul's underground," he said hoarsely. "The seal is active now. Both sides will sense it. We can't stay here."

Hana swallowed hard.

"So where do we go?"

He looked over his shoulder.

Not with fear.

Not with doubt.

But with a fierce, unwavering certainty.

"To the surface," he whispered. "Where our fate begins."

And then,

He extended his hand to her.

The same way he once did in the hidden alleys of Seoul.

Hana's heart pounded.

Her fingers trembled.

And slowly…

she reached for his hand.
