Chapter 1 - The Auction System

In the middle of the summer solstice, a group of people were crowding in front of a dilapidated mud house near the northern border barracks.

Inside the house, an old physician was taking the pulse of an unconscious woman lying on the wooden bed.

Standing beside the old physician, a woman in her fifties asked with a hint of worry in her voice, "Physician Yu, how is she?"

Physician Yu frowned deeply and kept shaking his head as he took the pulse. Everyone watching from the doors and windows held their breath.

The person lying unconscious on the bed was the bride of the newly promoted squad leader of the military barracks.

Although his rank couldn't be considered high, he was still a military officer commanding twenty-five soldiers. If something happened to his wife, no one could bear the consequences of his rage.

After a long time, Physician Yu finally opened his silver needle bag and gave the woman some acupuncture.

Wang Shen flinched when she saw the old physician stab the needles into the flesh without hesitation.

Fifteen minutes later, Physician Yu pulled out the silver needles and stored them while saying, "She is no longer in danger, but the wound on her head needs more attention. Don't let the wound touch water until it scabbed."

The old physician took out a piece of paper, a brush, and a bamboo tube. Opening the tube, he dipped the brush into it and wrote down a prescription.

"This prescription is to regulate the blood and qi. She needs to take it twice a day, in the morning and evening after meals. After taking it for ten days, she will be fine," he said while handing the prescription to her.

Wang Shen accepted the prescription and handed twenty coins to the physician. "Thank you for your help, Physician Yu."

Physician Yu kept the money, packed his medical box, and replied, "This is what I should do."

After the physician left, Wang Shen said, "Alright, everything is fine now. Everyone, you can disperse. Go back to your homes."

Under her urging, the onlookers finally left. Afterward, she returned to her home and asked her grandson to watch over the young woman while she went to the barracks to inform the woman's husband.

Half an hour later, the woman lying on the wooden bed finally stirred. Her eyelashes fluttered as she tried to open her heavy eyelids.

Sitting on a bamboo chair at the bedside, the little boy stared at her with wide eyes. He covered his mouth and nose with his palms, not daring to breathe loudly.

Since the day this woman arrived in their compound, she had either been fighting with other women or bullying the children. None of them dared to go against her due to how fierce she was.

If not for his grandma's instruction, he would not have wanted to come here to watch over her.

While the little boy was considering whether to run away or stay, the woman's eyes suddenly snapped open.

Startled, the boy let out a loud exclamation, "Ah!"

The next second, he fell backward to the ground with a thud. The wooden chair hit the ground, making a loud sound.

Bam!

The woman on the bed was startled and turned her head. When she met the boy's shocked gaze, she blinked several times.

After a moment, she parted her chapped, pale lips and asked, "Who are you?"

The little boy was so scared that it took him a while to regain his senses before replying, "A-Aunt Yao, I'm Xiao Shu."

When she heard this, Yao Zhi was confused. Feeling the pain on the back of her head, she let out a hiss and pushed herself up. Holding her head, she looked around.

The moment her gaze landed on the dilapidated mud walls, thatched roof, and old wooden furniture, she was stunned. Lowering her eyes, she looked at her chubby hands and big belly.

Staring at her strange body shape in the ancient-style clothes, she couldn't help but turn pale. Turning to the little boy, she asked, "Xiao Shu, what year is it now?"

Xiao Shu was illiterate, but he knew what year it was. He had heard his parents talk about it before. "It's the third year of Tianwu."

Hearing this, Yao Zhi suddenly felt dizzy. The shock was so great that she wanted to faint. "This must be a dream, a nightmare," she muttered under her breath.

She hoped that everything was just a dream. Unfortunately, the throbbing pain on the back of her head kept reminding her that everything was real. She was not dreaming!

Seeing her twisted expressions, Xiao Shu was so frightened that he ran back home to find his mother.

Sitting alone on the bed, Yao Zhi felt her mind was in a mess.

She had just started enjoying her life after working as a corporate slave with a side job as an author for nine years. Now that her novel was finally being adapted into a major drama, she suddenly transmigrated into this place.

She didn't even have the chance to spend the money she earned from selling her adaptation rights, and suddenly, after a nap, she appeared here. She was unwilling, ah!

While she was wailing in her heart, she heard a ding sound, similar to a message notification, echo in her mind.

Raising her head, she looked around, trying to find her mobile phone. But before she could, a transparent blue screen appeared in front of her.

The screen was the size of a tablet, with only several sentences on it.

"The auction system has been successfully bound. One chance for a free draw of a beginner package is available. Do you want to draw it now?"

Yao Zhi was dumbfounded as she stared at the options on the blue screen. Usually, the buttons should say Yes and No, but on this screen, both buttons said Yes.

Since she had no other choice, and because of her curiosity, she reached out and touched the button.
