In terms of application fields, 12-inch wafers are mainly used to produce high-end chips required for high-performance computing and personal electronic devices.

Meanwhile, 8-inch wafers are more widely used in industrial control, automotive electronics, and IoT, where cost and performance requirements are not as stringent.

Simply put, 12-inch wafers are superior to 8-inch wafers.

Chips like 4G and 5G are all produced by 12-inch wafer fabs.
