Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Advertising and Business Development

Chen Pingjiang naturally didn't know what had happened in the girls' dormitory.

In fact, to prevent Chen Pingjiang from finding out, several people had agreed not to tell anyone outside.

Someone as proud as Zhang Xinyue was even less likely to interfere, and even decided not to see or contact Chen Pingjiang.

As soon as he arrived at the company in the morning, Miao Bingwei walked over with a joyful expression:

"At two o'clock last night, our website's registered users already exceeded ten thousand."

Chen Pingjiang looked surprised at the dark circles under Miao Bingwei's eyes and patted his shoulder:

"Get some rest, the road to revolution is still long."

Miao Bingwei shook his head indifferently:

"It's nothing. I used to stay up all night watching games until dawn, then go to work at nine in the morning."

Seeing Renrenwang's data slowly increasing, Miao Bingwei, who treated it like his own child, was overjoyed.

"Oh, by the way, the check-in system and experience point system you mentioned at the last meeting are both online. You can try them out later."

Chen Pingjiang nodded and walked to his workstation.

"Boss, what's our work for today?" Li Xi asked.

Chen Pingjiang gave him a suspicious look,

"Didn't I say you'd have half a day off after the second round of promotion? Why are you here so early?"

Li Xi chuckled:

"No classes this morning, so I'm just idling in the dorm anyway."

Among the first six part-time employees, Chen Pingjiang was most impressed by Li Xi, not only for his quirky resume during the interview but also for his strong work ability and proactive attitude.

"Old Miao, do you have any ideas?"

Chen Pingjiang thought for a moment, then tilted his head and asked.

Miao Bingwei pondered for a while and said:

"The total number of students in the Jiangning Campus of the two universities is slightly over twenty thousand, and about fifty percent have already registered on Renrenwang. As it continues to develop, the number of registered users will keep climbing.

However, the average user visit time hasn't increased much. I think we should hold an event to add some topicality and interactivity."

"What about Li Xi?"

Chen Pingjiang turned his head and asked again.

"Huh?"

Li Xi didn't expect the boss to ask him.

"How about a campus beauty pageant? It would generate a lot of buzz."

"Your ideas are good."

Chen Pingjiang's right index finger tapped rhythmically on the desk, his gaze unfocused.

Then he changed the subject:

"But don't you think it's a bit too early now? Dongcai has about fifteen thousand undergraduate students, faculty, and graduate students combined, while the Sports Institute only has a mere seven thousand.

If Dongcai holds a beauty pageant, will the Sports Institute do it too? And a beauty pageant organized by individual schools is destined not to be very popular."

Miao Bingwei chuckled playfully:

"You've got it all figured out, yet you insist on asking for our opinions, putting on a listening posture to motivate us."

"That's right, I, Chen, never run a one-man show."

Chen Pingjiang smiled:

"The content department will continue its previous work, while also monitoring the website, muting, banning, and deleting problematic posts. The marketing department will be split into two.

One team will continue to push straight towards the Normal University and Police Academy. Since quality can't be improved quickly, we'll use quantity. The more people there are, the more content there will naturally be, and the website will become livelier.

Once all the universities in Dongjiang have been promoted, we will hold a campus image ambassador competition, where each school selects an ambassador for head-to-head PK. The final champion will sign with Renrenwang and be appointed as the Renrenwang Campus Image Ambassador."

"What will the other team do?"

"The other team will start negotiating advertising cooperation with merchants around the two universities. There will be three different ad slots: banners, text link ads, and pop-up ads. Absolutely no floating ads, as they severely impact user experience. There will be two pricing methods: monthly/quarterly packages and pay-per-click."

Chen Pingjiang said.

Li Xi frowned, asking in confusion:

"I understand monthly packages, but with pay-per-click, won't there be cases where a non-potential customer clicks on an ad, thus wasting promotional fees for nothing?"

Li Xi's concern was not unfounded.

Merchants around schools naturally prefer their ads to be seen by students from their current school.

If an ad is clicked by a student from another university dozens of kilometers away, it would be considered an invalid ad.

Miao Bingwei explained with a smile:

"Just deliver ads based on IP addresses. We also have LBS (Location-Based Services), but the technology isn't very mature yet."

"Aren't you being too optimistic, expecting these college students to handle negotiations? Should we specifically recruit a few experienced sales staff?"

Miao Bingwei looked at Chen Pingjiang and voiced his doubts.

Li Xi also hesitated:

"Boss, I want to go into business development, but I don't have any experience, nor do I know how to talk to merchants or if there are any brochures."

Chen Pingjiang waved his hand:

"What are you afraid of? This will all be trained beforehand. There are templates for what to say and how to say it."

Chen Pingjiang was all too familiar with the software sales process: first, cold-calling to screen potential clients, then scheduling a visit for a product presentation.

Usually, there wasn't much progress at this stage; it required continuous relationship management later on, and finally, holding a presentation event, finding suitable shills to create a good atmosphere, and then the deal would be signed.

Seeing that Li Xi still didn't quite understand, Chen Pingjiang continued:

"Boss, our store's promotional target is eyeglasses. We recommend full ad placement. There are three charging methods: CPC, OCPC, and OCPM, along with invalid lead compensation.

We will help you design ad creatives and ensure the landing page is vivid and detailed. Every day, we will provide you with a table including impressions and clicks to ensure your ROI and not waste a single penny."

Li Xi stared at Chen Pingjiang as if he were a monster.

He understood every word of that sentence, but put together, he was completely bewildered.

Where did all these advertising industry terms come from? He had never even heard of them.

The boss is truly a monster.

How did he grow up like this? He's only a freshman, yet he knows so much.

Is there anything he doesn't know?

He was very suspicious, everyone went to the same school, yet his boss never attended classes.

Miao Bingwei, standing nearby, shook his head and looked at Li Xi with pity, thinking this young man would probably be quite shocked.

He, on the other hand, had already grown accustomed to Chen Pingjiang's various superhuman abilities, even becoming somewhat numb to them.

While stepping out for a smoke, Miao Bingwei said with concern:

"I have a general understanding of Renrenwang's financial situation. You've been sustaining it with your barbecue restaurant. If the pressure becomes too great, or if your earning speed can't keep up with the cost of renting servers, I can help you ask around for an angel investor."

Chen Pingjiang just smiled, took a puff from his cigarette butt, and said:

"If the advertising and business development go well, there will be no problem. No need for angel investors. In comparison, I prefer investment institutions to come to me waving checks."

"Angel round focuses on people, Series A on products, Series B on data, and Series C on revenue. I am very optimistic about Renrenwang's prospects. Skipping the seed round, angel round, and Pre-A round directly will allow us to retain more equity.

Even if we always have enough money, not going public is fine, but you need to manage the financing rhythm well. Don't wait until you run out of money to raise funds," Miao Bingwei said.
