Alexandra moved like lightning. When the first guard lunged to grab her arm, she pivoted and drove her boot into his chest. The impact sent him sprawling to the ground with a thud that echoed through the hall.
Before the second guard could react, she seized him by the collar, yanking him close enough that he could smell the iron tang of her breath. "Do you see me using magic?" she murmured, her voice low and dangerous. "No? Then why are you?"
The guard hesitated—a flicker of fear crossing his eyes—but it was already too late. Alexandra slammed her fist into his chest, knocking the air from his lungs, then drove her knee up sharply. His head snapped back before he collapsed, bleeding, onto the marble floor.
