Soon it was time for Ocello's family to go back through the tunnels. There was one last thing to do before they left though.
Cuau and I walked them out. I could see the confusion on his face since usually Ocello would take his family home. He had weeks to explore the tunnels and all of us were pretty good at navigating them now.
Before we left, Ocello's dad talked to him quietly and after he heard the message, my husband looked over to me. I could see the concern in his eyes but I just nodded in reassurance.
As if to say to take the time we needed, he nodded back and went over to talk to the others as we left.
The tunnels were really a modern marvel. The walls had these regular ridges as if the mountain had been drilled into. Even the niches looked like tools had been used the cut them.
But age had dulled the edges to some extent. Water and humidity had trickled down the walls in some places and left dark marks on them.
