One Week Later

The soft clack of wood echoed through the hall as Loki moved his piece across the board.

Dino leaned back in his chair, eyes half-lidded. "Chess is such a nice game, isn't it? No physical exertion, no danger. Just thought and patience. Perfectly relaxing."

Loki barely glanced up. "I don't know. I think it's boring."

Dino sighed dramatically. "That's because you can't appreciate calmness, Loki."

Before Loki could respond, the temperature in the room dipped slightly.

Velzard walked in without ceremony, her presence alone pressing against the space. She went straight to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down. "What are you two playing?"

"Chess," Dino answered.

Velzard raised an eyebrow. "The game nobody ever wants to play with you. And Loki actually agreed?"

Loki grimaced. "I regret it now. It's painfully boring."

Velzard chuckled softly. "That's exactly why no one plays with him."

As if on cue, Misery entered carrying a tray of food. She froze mid-step the moment she noticed Velzard. "V–Velzard-sama. I didn't realize you were awake. I'll prepare something for you immediately—"

"Don't trouble yourself," Velzard said calmly.

Misery nodded and continued forward, setting the tray in front of Loki. "Here you go."

Loki smiled. "Thank you, Misery."

As he began eating, he thought to himself that apologizing back then really had been the right choice. His relationship with Misery and Rain was better than it had ever been.

Honestly, they were far easier to deal with than Violet and Juane. Misery especially took good care of him. She even made all his meals.

Dino stared at the tray, then at Misery. "Misery."

She looked at him flatly. "What?"

There was a pause. "…I'd like some food too."

"Then get up and make it yourself."

Dino stiffened. "What?"

He turned fully toward her. "Misery, why is it that you make food for Loki, but not for me?"

"Because Loki isn't a freeloader," she replied without hesitation. "He received proper permission to stay here. Guy-sama even said he'll be giving him missions."

She glanced at Dino with clear disdain. "Unlike you, who just sleeps all day."

With that, she turned and walked out.

Dino slumped back into his chair. "…I'm convinced she hates me."

Velzard shifted her gaze to Loki. "Loki, by the way. I forgot to ask you before but who named you. I'd think it would be quite taxing for anyone to name you. Was it a Hero perhaps?"

Loki continued eating. "A Hero didn't name me."

Velzard tilted her head slightly. "Then who?"

"A Dragon," Loki said. "Veldora. My best friend."

The room went still.

Dino straightened. Velzard's eyes widened just a fraction.

"Veldora," she repeated. "So you met my brother."

Loki froze mid-bite and turned toward her. "Veldora is your brother?"

"Yes," Velzard said. "All four of us True Dragons are siblings."

Loki's expression lit up. "That's so cool."

Velzard watched him closely. "How is he doing? Veldora, I mean."

Loki swallowed. "He's… pretty bummed about being sealed. I visit him every day. He keeps begging me to get him out."

He smiled faintly. "But I have a lead now. Sooner or later, I should be able to unseal him."

Velzard didn't respond right away.

But for the briefest moment, the pressure in the room eased.

Velzard's expression didn't change, but her voice dropped, cold, absolute.

"Unseal him, you say."

She looked directly at Loki. "I cannot allow that."

Loki paused mid-bite. "Huh?" He tilted his head. "What do you mean? He's your brother. Why would you want him to stay sealed?"

Dino stiffened, then let out a tired sigh. "You really don't know, do you?"

He began explaining Veldora's rampages, cities erased on whims, nations reduced to history, the countless times the world had nearly tipped into catastrophe because of him. A True Dragon with no restraint, no sense of responsibility. A calamity that laughed while the world burned.

By the time Dino finished, the room was quiet.

"I see," Loki said at last.

Then he continued eating.

"But that doesn't change anything for me," he added calmly. "I'm still unsealing him."

Velzard's eyes sharpened. "Unsealing Veldora would destabilize the world. He is an immature child who only knows destruction. He cannot be allowed to roam free."

Loki glanced up at her, utterly relaxed. "Well then."

He smiled. "What are you going to do about it?"

Velzard's lips curved faintly. "I don't know. Maybe freeze you for eternity."

Loki's smile widened. "Perfect. I've been looking for a reason to fight you."

Dino panicked instantly. "W–wait! Everyone, let's calm down—!"

Both Loki and Velzard stood.

The air grew heavy, power coiling around them. They faced each other with identical smiles, predatory, excited, each flexing as if the fight were already underway.

Then—

"Well, that's not happening."

The pressure shattered.

Loki clicked his tongue and turned. "Guy. Couldn't you have waited ten more minutes?" He sighed. "Why do you always have to ruin my fun?"

Velzard sat back down smoothly, her smile returning. "Guy. Have you completed the preparations for this time's attack?"

"That's why I'm here," Guy replied.

At that moment, Rain burst into the room, practically glowing. "Guy-sama! I'm ready to go! Where are the others?"

"Wait, Rain," Guy said. "There's been a change of plans."

He turned to Loki. "You've been craving a strong opponent, haven't you?"

Loki's ears practically perked up. "Oh?" He grinned. "Guy, this sounds promising. Don't disappoint me."

Guy sat down across from him. "I want you to lead a pseudo-attack on the border of the Western Nations."

Loki frowned. "If you're sending me to beat up weak humans, count me out."

"Don't worry," Guy said calmly. "Among the defenders is an insect general known as Razul."

Loki's smile returned. "Is that so? Don't raise my expectations just to let me down."

"Insects," Guy continued, "possess a natural advantage against magic-wielding demons. This may be one of your toughest fights yet."

"I see," Loki said. "And the purpose of this attack? Planning to take over the Western Nations?"

"No," Guy replied. "It's just a little fun."

"Fun?" Loki snorted, then shrugged. "Whatever. As long as I get to fight someone strong I don't care. And I'm interested in meeting this insect."

"But," Guy added, "you're not going there to destroy. You have to just cause disruption, then return. Don't turn it into a death battle."

Loki frowned. "Then what's the point?"

Guy met his gaze. "Either you follow my rules or you don't leave."

Loki scoffed. "Who made you my boss?"

Guy didn't answer immediately.

"If you complete the mission successfully," he said at last, "I'll give you ten thousand souls."

The room went silent.

Loki slowly looked up.

"…Say that again."
