In a world filled with awakened Callers and Terminators, there lived two childhood friends—a boy and a girl—who led a relatively simple life. It was as if they were destined to remain ordinary, while everyone around them awakened as Callers or rose to the peak of their careers or popularity. It might not have bothered them much, had it not made "him" the primary targets of bullying.
The girl had a strong mindset and physique making the other lose interest in her . Unfortunately , that made the boy the primary scapegoat yet they still didn't let the matter bother their lives since the girl would always be there to protect him most of the time.
As time went by, they grew close enough and eventually also fell in love with each other. The boy who has a severe inferiority complex because of the constant bullying and comparison had never expected the girl to love him back yet having tears of joy flow through her eyes after hearing his confession.
The world around them kept getting higher and more complex, yet they did not strive after success or try to change their lives or themselves. What mattered the most is their happiness and their loved ones happiness.
Unfortunately, life does not work out the way someone wants it to be . In midst of the battle between the caller and a terminator a huge disaster fell upon the land. Hundreds and thousands of citizens were injured along with the girl who spent every ounce of her strength to make sure her partner escaped from the disaster . The boy, having fallen into the deepest pit of despair, wished for the world to feel the same pain.
Whether it was his wish or the natural law of the world, will remain a mystery . The next minute , an all out war broke between the callers and terminators all over the world. The boy unable to do anything could only ask for help from each and every person that came along his way . Unfortunately , the world was too busy to look after themselves rather than looking after the heartbroken person.
Annoyed , an injured and exhausted young caller started taking out his anger on the person who looked annoying to him.
"JUST SHUT UP AND QUIT WAILING ALREADY , GOD ! THAT'S WHY I HATE THESE STUPID NPC'S WHO KNOW NOTHING OTHER THAN ASKING FOR HELP AND CRYING ALL THE TIME!"
The boy thought
"Ah.. all because I chose to live a simple life with my loved one. Fate really loves to pull such mean pranks, doesn't it?"
Knowing there was no hope to be saved , the boy chose to resign himself to death. Unfortunately , fate was not done playing pranks on him anytime soon.
Right after he resigned himself for death , A huge explosion occurred causing the damage to almost the entire planet. The boy who wanted to die, survived not because of a caller or a terminator but thanks to his promise ring .
One of the core principles of the promise ring included that even if one person were to suddenly die or disappear somewhere , the other half would choose to move over their death and try to continue living a good and happy life to their fullest.
Never in his life had he regretted a promise more than he did in this moment. Conflicted between the obligation to fullfill his promise and his growing resentment for this world, the boy set a goal and swore to chase after that goal until he drew his last breath.
The boy then travelled , survived and then once again travelled around the ruined planet which now had only a handful of survivors. He spent years traveling, living in complete isolation from the rest of humanity.
After travelling for years , he encountered an intact statute in a completely ruined city.
Desperation consumed him. For the first time since the incident, the boy forced his lips apart, breaking the silence he had clung to for so long. It was really faint yet the desperation was enough for the statue to take notice of him.
"Why should I grant you an exception? There are countless souls who suffer as much as you—if not more. Even the gods themselves do not dare bargain with the laws of nature."
The boy who was left speechless at first, fell into a deep thought and hesitated a minute or two , still he chose to give the answer from the bottom of his heart.
