Chapter 50 - chapter 51

The morning sunlight filtered through the mansion's tall windows, painting the hallways with gold. Ariana was in the art room, carefully finishing a delicate watercolor of the garden from last night. The calm of her world contrasted sharply with the tense energy that silently hummed through the mansion.

Evan's knock at the door was soft but urgent. "Mrs. Steel… sir requests your presence in the study. There's… something you should see."

Ariana's brow furrowed, curiosity mingling with a faint unease. She followed him through the quiet halls, senses heightened.

When she entered the study, Damian stood by the window, dark eyes scanning a set of security monitors. His expression was unreadable, the kind of calm that always made her heart skip a beat.

"Morning," she said softly.

Damian turned, and for a brief second, the commanding CEO softened at the sight of her. "Good morning. I need you close today."

Ariana's lips parted in confusion. "Close? What's—"

Before she could finish, Mr. Sato appeared at the doorway, his presence taut with authority. "Sir, we've detected unusual movement near the southern perimeter. Vehicles. Multiple. Unregistered."

Damian's jaw tightened. "How close?"

"Approximately three blocks out. Likely scouting, sir."

He glanced at Ariana. "I need you with me. Discreetly. Do exactly as I say."

Her pulse quickened, but she nodded without hesitation. "I trust you."

They left the mansion quietly, the Maybach gliding through the city with near-perfect silence. Ariana watched Damian in the rearview mirror, his hands steady on the wheel, posture commanding even in the mundane act of driving. Her heart swelled with a mix of admiration and quiet worry.

At a discreet location on the edge of the city, Damian stepped out, Evan and Sato flanking him. Ariana followed, staying close, feeling the weight of both protection and responsibility.

From a distance, Damian surveyed the approaching vehicles. "Keep calm," he whispered to Ariana, placing a reassuring hand over hers. "Nothing reaches you. Not today."

They watched as two black SUVs slowed, a man stepping out to scan the area. Damian's eyes narrowed, calculating, precise. Within moments, Sato's team had moved silently, intercepting the vehicles and ensuring the perimeter was secure. The tension dissolved almost instantly, but Damian remained vigilant until every trace of the threat was removed.

Ariana exhaled softly. "That… was intense."

He turned to her, a rare, soft smile touching his lips. "You stayed calm. That's all that matters."

Her fingers brushed against his. "You… always protect me."

He squeezed her hand once, firmly. "Always. There's nothing I won't do."

Back at the mansion, the late afternoon sun bathed the halls in a warm glow. Damian and Ariana entered, hand in hand, and the servants, Mrs. Rowan, and even Evan exchanged subtle glances. No words were spoken everyone knew that whatever storm they faced outside, here, they faced it together.

Ariana rested her head lightly against Damian's shoulder as they moved to the garden. "I never realized… how much your world… your responsibility…"

Damian tilted her chin gently to meet his eyes. "It's dangerous, yes. But nothing is as important to me as you. You make it all worth it."

She smiled, heart full, as the golden light wrapped around them. Even in the shadow of threats, love remained their strongest shield.
