Chapter 12 - Encounter 2

Chapter 12

The battle raged on, and Johan and I worked together as we clashed with the soldier. Johan charged forward, his sword flashing in the dim light, but the soldier easily blocked the blow. "Do you think that's going to do anything to me?" he sneered.

Undeterred, Johan smiled, and I took advantage of the opening. I struck with precision, aiming for the soldier's exposed flank. He blocked it with the other hand, but I knew he was momentarily occupied. I seized the opportunity, unleashing a powerful kick that sent him flying across the cavern.

The soldier soared through the air, and Johan sprang into action, his sword slicing towards the soldier's exposed form. I moved in tandem, my own attack aimed at the soldier's back. The soldier's instinct kicked in, and he turned mid-air, taking my attack head-on. My blade sliced across his stomach, leaving a shallow cut.

We landed on the floor, and Johan nodded in approval. "Nice attack," he said, his eyes gleaming with admiration. I smiled grimly, knowing the soldier's instincts had almost been my downfall. He had aimed to take me down at the same moment," I explained.

Johan's eyes widened in surprise. "Even in that situation?" he asked, his voice laced with respect. I nodded, my gaze locked on the soldier, who had slowly regained his footing. The battle is not over yet.

The soldier's words hung in the air, a stark contrast to the ferocity of the battle that had just transpired.

"We'll call it a draw since you can't fight anymore," he declared, his tone dripping with confidence.

I glared at the soldier, my eyes narrowing in indignation. "What do you mean?" I demanded, my voice firm and commanding, despite the fatigue creeping into my limbs, I put in a farce.

The soldier's smirk only infuriated me further, but before I could press the issue, my vision began to blur and my legs buckled beneath me. The cavern spun around me, and I felt myself crashing to the ground.

My vision faded, and I saw Johan's concerned face hovering above me, and I heard his urgent voice calling out to me. The soldier's retreating figures and Johan's bewildered questions - Why is he running?" were the last things I registered before everything went dark.

"It is…" I tried to say, but my voice was lost in the void as I succumbed to exhaustion.

I slowly regained consciousness, and I took in my surroundings, my gaze discerning, my eyes locking onto Johan's still form opposite me. The battle in the cave was no dream; the memories were etched in my mind like the blade of a sword.

I recalled the white glowing substance, an enigmatic presence that had beckoned me in my subconscious state. The closer I approached, the farther it receded leaving me with more questions than answers. I focused my mind, meditating on my physical form. My body hummed with a newfound strength, a vitality that hadn't been there before.

Next day :

The doctor's arrival interrupted my reverie. "Oh, you're awake," he said, his smile warm and professional. "You have an extraordinary body. You should be out for a week or so, given the extent of your injuries."

I nodded curtly, my curiosity piqued. "Excuse me, doctor," I said my voice firm and commanding. "Where are we?"

The doctor's response was straightforward. "You're in the city," he replied, his tone matter-of-fact.

I nodded, my eyes narrowing as I processed the doctor's words. "And Johan?" I asked, my voice firm.

The doctor's expression turned serious. "He's stable, but he'll need a bit more time to recover. You both pushed yourselves to the limit in that cave."

I absorbed the information, my mind already racing with what to do ahead. "When can we expect to be discharged?" I asked, my tone assertive.

The doctor hesitated, his eyes scanning my chart. "Given your rapid recovery, l'd say you could be discharged within a day or two. But you'll need to take it easy, avoid any strenuous activity."

I nodded curtly, my decision made. I'll make sure to follow your instructions, doctor.

The doctor's word brought a sense of relief, and I nodded in appreciation. "Thanks, doctor," I replied, my voice firm, that will be helpful.

The doctor smiled, his eyes warm. "By the way, she brought some fruit for you. You should have some. It'll help with your recovery.

My curiosity piqued, I asked, "I replied, you mean…"

The doctor nodded, a knowing smile on his face. "Yes, Vivian."

I smiled, a sense of relief washing over me. So Vivian had been here, and she was thinking of us. I felt a surge of gratitude towards her, and I couldn't wait to see her again.

The doctor's visit had been a welcome interruption, and I was grateful for the news about Johan's condition. The room felt silent, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. We are safe, for now.

I reached for the tray of fruits, my hunger finally getting the better of me. The sweetness of the apple exploded in my mouth as I took a bite. It was just what I needed.

Johan'd sudden movement caught my attention, and I turned to see him sitting upright, a look of surprise on his face. I tossed him an apple, and he caught it with a grin.

"Welcome bro," I said, taking another bite of my apple.

"Thanks," Johan replied, his eyes scanning the room. "Where are we?"

I filled him in on what I knew, and he listened intently, his expression growing more serious by the minute.

"Vivian?" he asked, a hint of worry in his voice.

I shook my head. "She's not here, and u haven't seen her since I've been conscious."

Johan'd face fell, and I could tell he was worried. But we are all alive, and that's what matters for now.

For a moment, we just sat there, eating our apples and taking in our surroundings. It was a moment of peace a brief respite from the chaos that had brought us to this place.
