Chapter 9: I Will Protect This Snow-White!

1,239 Words

"Madara!!"

Faced with Obito's sudden appearance, Konan roared in hatred.

She didn't care about the power difference. She didn't care if she could kill him.

She just wanted to unleash all the rage and hatred in her heart on the man before her.

Konan completely ignored her own defense, using all her remaining chakra to form a thousand paper kunai, launching them all at Obito.

The kunai hadn't even reached him, but his Cutting Jutsu was already less than five centimeters from her chest.

Konan ignored the mortal danger. She just stared at Obito as he stepped out of the vortex.

Just as Alex had said. He was completely unharmed.

Her six hundred billion explosive tags hadn't killed him. They hadn't even injured him.

Perhaps it had only cost him one Sharingan...

Out of chakra, Konan couldn't defend against the attack. She couldn't even activate her paper body.

But... Alex would not let her die.

"You can't die yet!" Alex roared internally. "This... this snow-white... is mine to protect!"

Of all places, Obito just had to aim for his spot.

This was where he was born! This was his home! This was his snow-white!

At this moment, Alex's rage exploded.

His determination to protect it was absolute.

He would not allow this place to be damaged in any way!

"You will be stopped!"

Alex appeared at Konan's chest in a flash. He used his chakra, madly replicating paper, layering it in front of him.

These papers were no different from Konan's. Hard, and immune to water and fire.

In an instant.

Alex became incredibly thick.

Hundreds of papers stacked on top of him, forming a thick protective layer.

Like a dense book.

Pfft!

The sharp branch plunged into the "book." Pop! Pop! Pop! Countless smaller branches erupted from the main one.

The hundreds of protective layers were torn to shreds.

But it worked. It slowed and weakened the attack. The jutsu's power was spent before it could pierce the final layers.

But the crisis wasn't over.

In that split second.

Alex shed the paper full of branches. Then, fwoosh, explosive tag after explosive tag flew from his body.

A full ten thousand.

He had... skimmed... them from the six hundred billion, just in case.

He hadn't had time to grab more.

He had saved them for this very moment.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Half the tags rushed Obito, detonating at point-blank range.

The intense fire and explosions completely swallowed him. He had no time to dodge and was forced to go intangible.

Alex didn't expect to kill him. He just needed to pin him down.

At the same time, the remaining tags flew upward, blasting a massive hole in the ceiling.

Rubble and smoke poured down.

The building above shook violently, groaning under the stress.

Alex did all of this in less than three seconds.

Only then did the string of explosions finally snap Konan out of her rage.

"Go!!"

Alex flew in front of her. A single, massive word appeared on his surface.

[GO!]

It was bright red, signifying the extreme danger.

Konan's forehead was covered in cold sweat. She panted, looking back at the bodies of Yahiko and Nagato.

"No! I can't abandon their bodies! I can't let them fall into Madara's hands!" Her tone was final.

There was no choice. He had to force her.

Alex understood her feelings, but he couldn't let her emotions lead them to a meaningless death.

Every second they stayed here, death drew closer.

Nagato and Yahiko's bodies were under Zetsu's control. He couldn't get them.

He didn't have time to waste.

Alex didn't explain. He pressed himself against her chest.

His white paper surface instantly spread, wrapping around her entire body.

"What are you doing?!" Konan yelled.

[Getting you out of here!]

Four red words appeared on the paper already covering most of her body.

"No! I won't leave! Nagato and Yahiko are still here! You can't make this decision for me!!"

Konan tried to take control of Alex.

But her command vanished, like a stone in the ocean. It had no effect.

It wasn't like the test earlier.

Alex had already sealed off the mental connection Konan had to his paper body.

He ignored her protests, acting on his own.

The paper didn't stop. It was now at her neck.

Her body was rising, flying toward the hole in the ceiling.

"No! Don't!" Konan looked at Yahiko and Nagato on the floor, crying in agony.

She couldn't leave.

She couldn't accept letting her comrades' bodies be desecrated by the enemy.

She began to struggle violently, trying to break free of Alex's grasp.

"I'm sorry. I want to live. I don't want to die here."

A white light flashed across the paper covering Konan's body.

Her cries stopped abruptly. Her body stopped struggling. She fell into a deep sleep.

Her tear-streaked face was a mask of grief and unwillingness.

With no chakra, Konan had little strength. But her struggling was affecting his flight speed.

Swoosh! Alex, wrapped around Konan, shot through the hole, fleeing the dangerous area.

At that moment, the underground chamber was filled with black smoke.

To protect his prize, Black Zetsu had already sunk deep underground with the Rinnegan the moment the explosions started.

The eyes were all that mattered.

"WHITE TIGER!!!"

Less than ten seconds after Alex fled, a furious roar echoed from the chamber.

It was Obito, emerging from the smoke.

His right eye was bloodshot, trembling with rage.

His killing intent for Konan was at an all-time high.

"Take their bodies back to the base!"

Obito suppressed his rage. He barked an order at the remaining White Zetsus, then used his body-flicker to shoot up through the hole.

He burst out of the building.

Obito looked up, searching the sky.

Using the incredible perception of his Mangekyo Sharingan, he immediately spotted her.

But she was already a tiny black dot on the horizon. The next second, she was gone.

CRACK! Obito, in his fury, punched a nearby utility pole, shattering it. His chest heaved.

"White Tiger! You can't escape!! I will kill you! Anyone who betrays the Akatsuki... must die!!"

"Obito, perhaps you should think about the plan." Black Zetsu emerged from the ground at Obito's feet.

He didn't care at all about Konan.

A mere Kage-level shinobi with no special bloodline? She wasn't worth his attention.

Her power had peaked. She was no threat to his plans.

As long as a bloodline wasn't related to the Otsutsuki, he didn't care.

"Call me Madara!!" Obito snapped, glaring down at Black Zetsu.

"Yes, yes. Lord Madara. Now that Nagato is dead, how do we proceed?"

"I have a plan. You don't need to ask! Immediately mobilize all the White Zetsus. I want to find the White Tiger, and then..." Obito's voice was demonic. "Kill her!!"

"Understood. As long as you have a plan." Black Zetsu scoffed internally.

He's still just an emotional little brat. Hasn't changed at all.

Waste is waste.

But even if he was waste, he was still useful. He had to be placated.

Black Zetsu finished his thought and sank back into the ground to carry out the order.

"White Tiger! For the... harm... you did to me, I will repay you a hundred, a thousand times over!"

Obito stared with venomous eyes at the spot where Konan had vanished. He activated Kamui and disappeared.
