CHAPTER 1

THE FIRST BELL

Elena's POV

Breakfast at the Collins mansion smelled like perfection — pancakes, coffee, and my reflection in the phone screen. Hair flawless. Lips glossy. Outfit screaming confidence. Yes… I knew I looked good. Let's be honest, I always do.

"Don't be boring on your first day, Elena!" Amelia shouted, bouncing in like a whirlwind.

I smirked, flipping my hair. "Boring? Please. The world isn't ready for me today."

Mom, floated over and hugged me. "Good luck, sweetheart. Make us proud."

Dad, barely looked up from his laptop, but leaned forward to press a quick kiss on my forehead. "Drive safe. And don't be late."

I grabbed my bag and headed out — and that's when Jaiz appeared, sunglasses on, oversized bag slung over her shoulder, grinning like she owned the world.

"Rise and shine, Queen Collins! Ready to make everyone jealous today?" she exclaimed.

I rolled my eyes, hiding a small smile. "You're ridiculous, Jaiz."

"I know. That's why you love me," she replied, hopping into the backseat of my Ferrari.

The engine purred as we cruised toward St. John's International School (SJIS). Heads turned instantly. Whispers started. Boys stared and girls whispered. I stepped out, heels clicking, chin high, sunglasses on. Jaiz followed, tossing her hair dramatically, energy insane as always. Together, we looked untouchable.

Inside the classroom, a few girls whispered behind fake smiles. Let them. I wasn't here to please anyone. Most of the guys tried to talk to me, as usual — I ignored them. Jaiz waved at everyone like royalty.

"Morning, princess," Mike Joe called from across the room — my childhood friend, loyal and slightly annoying.

"Morning, Mike," I said, sliding into my seat beside Jaiz.

The first bell had rung, and already, the school year promised drama, jealousy, and excitement. I leaned back in my chair, crossing my legs, smiling faintly. Whatever this year threw at me… I was ready.

"Elena Collins, please come to the principal's office," Mrs. Isabella, our class teacher, called out.

I raised an eyebrow. What now?

The moment I stepped into Ms. Valeria Knight's office, I realized it wasn't a punishment. The principal smiled warmly.

"Congratulations, Elena. Once again, your marks are the highest in the class. I just wanted to personally acknowledge your achievement."

I smiled, accepting the small compliment. "Thank you, Ms. Knight."

Walking back to class, heels clicking, bag in hand… that's when it happened.

I collided with someone. Hard.

"Oh! I'm… I'm sorry," a calm voice said. I looked up and saw a boy with dark hair, headphones on, completely absorbed in a book. He gave a quick nod and started walking away, like nothing happened.

I staggered on my heels, almost losing balance. A group of girls nearby snickered. "Oops… looks like someone can't handle their heels!"

Oh no… that was one of my favorite heels, I muttered under my breath, glares shooting at the boy.

Fuming, I stormed back to class, my bag heavy with irritation.

And then… my eyes froze.

There he was. Sitting in the seat right beside mine. A spot no one usually took, reserved like it belonged to someone important.

I marched over, slammed my bench down with force, making a loud thud. "Move!" I demanded.

He looked up calmly. "This bench isn't yours alone. I needed a space to sit."

My jaw tightened. Seriously? He hadn't even apologized properly. Not only had he bumped into me, ruined my favorite heels, but now he had the audacity to claim the seat.

I sank into my own seat, gripping my bag tighter. Great… just great. This day is already turning into a disaster.
