I guided Stella carefully down the steps, keeping her steady as she adjusted her coat. "Here," I said gently as we reached the street, "you can get a cab from here. Make sure you get home safely."
She looked at me, eyes still glistening. "Thank you… Elara. For everything. For listening, for understanding… for bringing me here."
I nodded. "Take care of yourself, Stella. And… we'll keep our promise."
She smiled faintly and waved, hurrying toward the cab stand. I watched until the taxi pulled away, then turned back to the car. The ride back to the mansion felt quiet, but not heavy, there was a strange lightness now, a sense of closure settling in my chest.
As soon as I pulled into the driveway, the twins came running. Alexander's little legs pounded against the marble floors as he leapt straight into my arms. Isabella followed, giggling, wrapping her tiny arms around my neck.
"Mommy!" they shouted together, their voices blending in perfect, chaotic harmony.
